About The Position

ASML is hiring a Senior Mechatronics Engineer for its development location in Wilton, Connecticut. The engineer will specify, design, develop, realize, integrate, and test modules and tools for photolithography systems, working with cross-functional teams and suppliers. The role delivers solutions that meet system specifications, cost targets, and project schedules and provides mechatronics expertise throughout the product lifecycle, including feasibility studies, new product introduction, product sustainment, and customer-facing problem resolution. The position focuses on mechatronics and control systems for advanced lithography-tool modules, including precision handling, product and system integration, and software functionality. The engineer will take ownership of complex module work, consider industrialization and cross-team impacts, lead supplier and discipline interfaces, and guide peers through technical execution. Scope and leadership expectations increase with job grade. The work includes designing custom mechatronic systems and controls; integrating industrial robotics into capital equipment; conducting system- and component-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis; developing test tooling and executing verification, validation, and qualification; and documenting specifications, design decisions, operating procedures, test procedures, and reports. The engineer will also support sustaining engineering, future equipment concepts, design quality, and resolution of equipment issues at customer sites. This position may involve access to controlled technology. Candidates must be legally authorized to access that technology before beginning work; business needs may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible. There is potential exposure to strong magnetic fields, high voltage, and high currents.

  • Experience with PID controllers, linear and nonlinear calibrations, and flexible dynamics.
  • Experience designing complex mechanisms such as robot grippers.
  • Basic experience with predictive modeling of mechatronics behavior using MATLAB, Simulink, or similar tools, including first-principles engineering equations and dynamic-system simulation and implementation.
  • Knowledge of classical and digital control theory, including frequency-domain analysis, stability analysis, Nyquist and Bode plots, velocity-acceleration-jerk, feedback and feedforward, dynamics, gain and phase, transfer functions, continuous and discrete feedback control, and real-time controls.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary projects such as imaging or optical systems, semiconductor, or lithography.

Responsibilities

  • Develop complex parts of modules and deliver technically complex solutions with ownership, considering industrialization and cross-team impacts.
  • Collaborate across teams, lead interfaces with suppliers and other disciplines, and guide peers through technical execution.
  • Design and develop custom mechatronics systems, including translating stages, rotary motion, multi-link positioners, sensors, servos, and actuators.
  • Design path optimization algorithms and associated controls for end products.
  • Analyze and improve dynamic disturbance response of robotic systems.
  • Perform sustaining engineering and resolve equipment design issues, including issues arising at customer sites.
  • Participate in concept designs and experiments for future equipment and subsystems.
  • Apply Six Sigma and lean process techniques to develop robust, high-quality designs.
  • Work with external suppliers and internal cross-disciplinary teams on new product design.
  • Perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot from system to component level.
  • Define and document specifications, design decisions, and operating procedures for clean manufacturing environments.
  • Develop and implement product validation and verification strategies.
  • Integrate industrial robotics control systems into capital equipment, including dynamics, end-effector design, and controls.
  • Troubleshoot designs to identify risks and failure modes and determine corrective actions.
  • Run complex mechatronic systems to test and qualify design changes.
  • Design, develop, and build product-specific test tooling.
  • Validate and verify product requirements and document test procedures and reports.
  • Identify, analyze, document, and manage requirements with traceability; coordinate verification criteria.
  • Conduct research and feasibility studies, document findings, and make recommendations and tradeoff assessments.
  • Develop engineering concepts and solutions, make technical choices, and resolve issues within functionality, performance, cost, compliance, and schedule constraints.
  • Define and communicate specifications and high-level designs, align interfaces, and support reviews and approvals.
  • Support system or product integration by coordinating dependencies and applying configuration management.
