About The Position

BAE Systems has an opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Hudson, NH, within the Space Systems product line, specifically in the Secure Communications product area. This role involves performing all aspects of mechanical design, from requirements to solution design, using Creo as the primary CAD tool. The products include computer test racks, circuit card assemblies, chassis, environmental fixtures, and optical assemblies, ranging from benchtop to flight equipment. The engineer will work on large, long-term programs, supporting various stages of design and production. This position requires collaboration with a larger team across Engineering and Operations, including Mechanical Analysts, Systems Engineers, Software Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Test Engineers, Program Engineering Managers, Manufacturing Engineers, and New Product Introduction Engineers. Eligibility to obtain a Secret Clearance is required. The role offers flexibility to learn and perform some analysis tasks, such as thermal and structural analysis, and will work closely with Mechanical Analysts. Board design tasks include component selection, PCB stackup, symbol/footprint creation, schematic capture, layout, and routing, with mentorship available for mechanical design experience with PCBs. Experience with VITA/SpaceVPX standards and designing backplanes and cabling is recommended but not required. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar field)
  • Minimum of four years' applicable experience
  • Mechanical design experience and experience using CAD tools for drawings and tolerancing
  • Experience working on larger Engineering teams
  • Ability to mentor and willingness to be mentored
  • Strong debug and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Space experience is desired.
  • Mechanical design experience supporting PCB design, backplanes, and cabling.
  • Optomechanical design experience.
  • Space design experience.
  • Experience using Creo.
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in hardware design and hands-on lab debug.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-starter and a good team player.
  • Experience with VITA/SpaceVPX standards is recommended.
  • Experience designing backplanes and with cabling is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and potentially perform some analysis tasks within the role.
  • Work with board designers on component selection, PCB stackup, symbol/footprint creation, schematic capture, layout, and routing.
  • Design backplanes and cabling (recommended).
