About The Position

The company is hiring junior and senior Mechanical Engineers for marine applications in the San Francisco Bay Area. The roles focus on robotics, sonar, and machine learning for underwater marine applications. Based out of the Bay Area office, the positions involve occasional travel to Norway and Chile. The engineer will design robust, field-deployable systems for remote data collection and processing in harsh ocean environments. The work includes integrating sensors, cameras, networking, and low-power remote-operated platforms, as well as developing marine hardware and applying computer vision and machine learning to marine data.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Ocean Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience designing marine, offshore, or field-deployed electromechanical systems; 3+ years is preferred.
  • Experience with IP67/IP68 sealing, corrosion-resistant materials, and pressure-tolerant design.
  • Robotics experience, including ROV/AUV platforms, actuation, and winch or launch-and-recovery systems.
  • Experience integrating sonar, sensors, and cameras for underwater perception.
  • Experience with networking for remote systems, including mesh, wireless, and cellular telemetry.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, PDM, FEA, and tolerance analysis for marine hardware.
  • Experience with computer vision, machine learning, and edge processing for real-time data collection.
  • Experience with dynamics, hydrodynamics, and mooring or towing analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience designing marine, offshore, or field-deployed electromechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design robust, field-deployable systems for remote data collection and processing in harsh ocean environments.
  • Integrate sensors, cameras, mesh, wireless, and cellular networks into reliable, low-power, remote-operated platforms.
  • Work with robotics, winch systems, sonar integration, and vehicle dynamics for surface and subsea applications.
  • Design mechanical components, packaging, and waterproof enclosures using SolidWorks.
  • Apply computer vision and machine learning for automated detection, tracking, and onboard processing of marine data.
  • Conduct field testing, offshore deployment, and rapid prototyping in marine environments.
