As an optical engineer at BAE Systems Aerospace & Mission Systems (AMS), the role advances technology and develops innovative optical systems for airborne and space-based applications. The position is part of the Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit, whose technical talent and organizational leadership support delivery of high-impact technologies for customer missions. The role works in collaborative, cross-functional teams focused on innovation, integrity, continual learning, and execution. The position requires regular on-site work five days each normally scheduled week at the primary work location. Travel and local commuting between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required. Work may take place in an office, laboratory, production floor, cleanroom, outdoors, or a remote research environment. Occasional work in production work centers may require protective equipment and gear, and the role may involve accessing other facilities in various weather conditions. A bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field and four or more years of related experience are required, or equivalent experience. Each higher-level related degree, such as a master's degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience; related technical experience may also be considered in lieu of education. A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible, but the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission after accepting an offer, depending on program requirements, and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance or access.
