About The Position

Eaton is hiring a Senior Manager of Tax Litigation in Houston, TX or Cleveland, OH. Relocation assistance is offered. This role is a key member of Eaton’s global Tax Litigation team. This role partners closely with the Senior Director / Tax Counsel to develop, implement, and defend the company’s global tax controversy and litigation strategies. The position supports complex, high-impact matters that protect and enhance shareholder value and requires deep expertise in federal income tax law, government interactions, and dispute resolution. The expected annual salary range for this role is $165000 - $242000 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive tax and/or litigation experience
  • Authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship

Nice To Haves

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • LL.M. in Taxation
  • Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state
  • Federal tax controversy experience within a law firm, public accounting firm, and/or corporate tax function
  • Experience reviewing work and mentoring junior professionals
  • Strong foundation in income tax technical principles and tax position analysis
  • Deep understanding of tax laws, regulations, and principles, with strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, including financial modeling
  • Experience with SharePoint, Power BI, Copilot, and other Microsoft collaboration and AI tools
  • Strong understanding of how tax laws apply to financial transactions
  • Knowledge of differences between tax accounting and financial (book) accounting
  • Ability to analyze complex transactions and determine appropriate tax treatment
  • Proficiency with standard business software; ability to learn and navigate internal financial reporting and forecasting systems

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the global tax team to analyze complex tax issues and develop effective litigation defense strategies.
  • Execute litigation strategies by: Analyzing government positions, Developing strategic responses to information requests, Drafting persuasive legal documents (e.g., protests), Participating in settlement discussions, Managing casework for active litigation matters
  • Lead and manage relationships with external stakeholders, including outside counsel.
  • Identify and analyze transfer pricing matters and develop strategic litigation responses.
  • Conduct thorough research on tax laws, regulations, and precedents.
  • Model and analyze complex, multi-year scenarios to assess the impact of key decisions.
  • Leverage technology tools to enhance efficiency, consistency, and quality across global processes.
  • Review work and support the development and mentoring of junior team members.
