Requirements

  • 2+ years’ experience with income tax, sales tax, and other taxes.
  • Prior tax litigation experience is an asset.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of Canada’s income tax, sales tax, or other Canadian tax systems.
  • Member in good standing of the Law Society of their province of residence.
  • Proficiency in English.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in responding to federal and provincial audits and strategically advise clients on the various options and steps in resolving tax disputes.
  • Prepare notices of objection and written representations to the federal and provincial tax authorities.
  • Assist with litigation in resolving tax disputes, including court appeals, judicial review applications, and other administrative processes such as voluntary disclosures, taxpayer relief applications, ruling requests, and remission orders.
  • Assist with the preparation of legal opinions with respect to the tax consequences of transactions and performing post-transaction audits for tax efficacy and litigation risk.
