Senior Manager, Software Engineering (Geospatial Platform)

Anduril•Seattle, WA
•$220,000 - $292,000

About The Position

Terra is Anduril’s geospatial platform team, providing maps, imagery, elevation, bathymetry, charts, and environmental data used across Anduril products, including command-and-control software, autonomous vehicles, and simulation environments. The team builds data-processing pipelines, cloud and disconnected-network services, and tools that enable teams to bring their own data. The Senior Manager, Software Engineering will lead Terra, manage a team of about a dozen engineers, and grow the organization. The role sets the technical and product direction for geospatial data at Anduril and owns production systems relied on by robots and operators in the field. It works with business lines across air, maritime, and space, as well as simulation teams and external data and technology partners. This is primarily a leadership role, with the expectation of engaging deeply in architecture alongside Staff engineers while building a team that delivers.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of software-building experience.
  • At least 3 years managing engineering teams of 8 or more engineers.
  • Background in geospatial, GIS, mapping, or remote sensing, including familiarity with GDAL, PostGIS, tiling/WMTS, raster and vector formats, and terrain and elevation data.
  • Experience with Go, Python, and cloud infrastructure such as Kubernetes, AWS, or Azure.
  • Track record of owning production data or serving systems with uptime and support requirements.
  • Experience with large-scale data processing and storage (terabytes or more) and the associated cost, performance, and reliability tradeoffs.
  • Strong technical judgment, including the ability to review designs and challenge architecture with senior engineers.
  • Clear communication with partners, customers, and executives.
  • Willingness to directly support the safety and security of people in combat zones.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Shipped mapping or imagery products to external users.
  • Experience with offline, edge, or intermittently connected deployments.
  • Experience working with data vendors, content licensing, or usage tracking.
  • Exposure to simulation, game engines, digital twins, or perception and machine-learning training data.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, hire, and develop a team of software and GIS engineers.
  • Shape the team structure as it grows beyond a single team.
  • Own delivery and reliability of Terra’s production systems, including offline map pipelines for fielded autonomous systems and operational support.
  • Set the roadmap for Anduril’s common map environment, including imagery and terrain basemaps, nautical and aeronautical charts, vision-based navigation data, and synthetic environment reconstruction for simulation.
  • Work with business lines to understand mission needs, set clear expectations, and turn requests into products other teams can use independently.
  • Own Terra’s map content strategy; work with partnerships, legal, and finance to source data and ensure systems enforce licensed-data usage rules.
  • Communicate Terra’s work through product documentation, demonstrations, and roadmaps that drive adoption across the company.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers and are considered part of total compensation.
  • Top-tier benefits package, described as comprehensive and competitive and available at little to no cost to employees.
