Senior Manager, SAP Applications & Engineering (Remote)

Cole Haan•Greenland, NH
•$155,000 - $200,000•Remote

About The Position

The Senior Manager, SAP Applications & Engineering leads the engineering and functional team responsible for Cole Haan’s SAP portfolio across Retail and Supply Chain. The role owns technical execution: how work is built, engineering standards, team development, partner performance, technical status, and technical readiness. It provides hands-on technical leadership through design and code review, solving difficult problems, unblocking critical work, prototyping, and raising the quality of the team’s output, while not serving as routine delivery capacity on committed work. The role leads engineering and stabilization across S/4HANA and connected retail and supply chain platforms, including merchandising, allocation and assortment, article and inventory management, replenishment, warehouse management, logistics, procurement, order fulfillment, EDI, and integrations. It manages technical dependencies, defects, enhancements, release discipline, platform health, operational performance, and the transition from implementation to ongoing product support. It also assesses implementation and release readiness, including environments, integration testing, data conversion and reconciliation, defects, cutover, rollback, support transition, monitoring, and hypercare. The position leads a small team of experienced specialists, establishes domain ownership, develops team capability, and coordinates internal, distributed, offshore, and contracted development resources. It evaluates system integrator, contractor, and vendor work against agreed criteria and evidence, and works with IT leadership and Procurement on statements of work, capacity gaps, and commercial concerns. A project manager aligned to the portfolio by the IT PMO owns timing, portfolio capacity planning, sequencing, delivery reporting, stage gates, and communication with the business about dates. This role owns technical feasibility, approach, effort estimates, technical resource requirements, and technical risks and assumptions. The role operates within the architecture and strategic direction set by the Senior Director and the design authority of the SAP technical architect. It owns SAP Retail and Supply Chain delivery, but not SAP Finance, store systems, digital commerce, or DTC platforms. The position is remote. The base salary range is $155,000 to $200,000 annually, with eligibility for an annual target bonus based on company and individual performance. Pay depends on relevant skills, experience, and location. Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance; health savings and flexible spending accounts; a 401(k) with employer matching; disability and life insurance; vacation, sick time, holidays and paid parental leave; adoption assistance; charitable matching gifts; volunteer days; and Cole Haan discounts.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in technical delivery, enterprise applications, or a closely related technology role.
  • At least 3 years leading technical teams, including senior individual contributors, with evidence of developing people as well as directing work.
  • Hands-on depth in integration patterns, release and environment management, data migration and conversion, and defect triage sufficient to challenge designs and estimates.
  • Hands-on SAP delivery experience for apparel, footwear, or accessories using S/4HANA Fashion (FMS), AFS, or S/4HANA Retail in a fashion context, including implementation, go-live, and stabilization.
  • Working command of fashion-specific constructs, including article master with variants and color/size grids, season and collection management, allocation and assortment runs, stock protection, and wholesale order management with delivery windows and value-added services.
  • Experience with Retail and wholesale processes across merchandising and allocation, article and inventory management, store replenishment, warehouse management, order management, fulfillment, and EDI.
  • Demonstrated management of system integrator and vendor performance against statements of work, including rejecting deliverables that did not meet criteria.
  • Experience coordinating distributed, offshore, and contract development resources.
  • Demonstrated experience recovering at-risk technical execution, including replanning with delivery leadership.
  • Credibility with functional leadership, program governance, and integrator leadership, including the ability to hold a position on delivery matters with senior stakeholders and integrator management.
  • Project-based travel may be required, up to 20%.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a footwear, apparel, or accessories brand, or an adjacent sector with a comparable retail and wholesale model, such as sporting goods, outdoor, or specialty retail.
  • Experience with EDI and IDoc integration, warehouse management interfaces, or order management.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, modern integration tooling, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
  • PMP, SAFe, Scrum, or comparable certification.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical approach, engineering standards, and fitness of work for release across the SAP portfolio.
  • Coordinate SAP, integration, application, and external development resources to deliver committed Retail and Supply Chain work.
  • Stage builds, resolve technical trade-offs, and drive blockers to resolution with the appropriate technical owners.
  • Review and challenge estimates, integration approaches, data mappings, environment plans, and implementation sequencing before work is committed.
  • Ensure designs, data flows, integrations, controls, and operational impacts receive appropriate review, and that technical decisions are documented and reflected in plans.
  • Provide level-of-effort estimates and technical resource requirements as input to portfolio planning; maintain accurate technical status.
  • Define, contract, and manage additional ABAP, BTP, or integration development capacity when internal capacity is insufficient, within the SAP technical architect’s design direction.
  • Lead engineering and stabilization across S/4HANA and connected Retail and Supply Chain platforms, including merchandising, allocation and assortment, article and inventory management, replenishment, warehouse management, logistics, procurement, order fulfillment, EDI, and integrations.
  • Manage dependencies across SAP, third-party platforms, enterprise data, infrastructure, security, and business processes.
  • Drive post-launch defects, enhancements, and optimization to resolution, and support transition to an ongoing product and enhancement model.
  • Own the enhancement backlog and its sequencing against business priorities, release cadence, regression discipline, platform health, operational performance, and the annual SAP release and maintenance cycle.
  • Perform design and code review, solve problems the team cannot resolve, unblock critical-path work, prototype, and improve the quality of team output.
  • Evaluate system integrator, contractor, and vendor deliverables against acceptance criteria and evidence of completed outcomes; accept or reject deliverables as appropriate.
  • Challenge partner estimates, staffing assumptions, sequencing, and recovery plans; invoke statements of work when performance requires it.
  • Translate statements of work into measurable deliverables, milestones, and acceptance criteria, and coordinate commercial concerns with IT leadership and Procurement.
  • Identify application-management agreement capability and coverage gaps and work with IT leadership and Procurement to address them.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a small team of experienced specialists; establish clear ownership of domains, commitments, documentation, and issue resolution.
  • Ensure each team member owns a defined domain and builds direct business relationships as the business contact for that domain.
  • Support workforce planning, role definition, recruiting, and onboarding.
  • Own readiness assessment for releases and implementations, covering environments, integration testing, data conversion and reconciliation, defect resolution, cutover, rollback planning, and support transition.
  • Confirm operational support, documentation, monitoring, and ownership requirements are complete before release; coordinate technical resources for hypercare and drive stabilization actions to closure.
  • Partner with the aligned project manager, who owns portfolio timing, sequencing, capacity planning, delivery reporting, stage gates, and business communication about dates; this role owns technical feasibility, approach, effort, resources, and technical risks and assumptions.
  • Keep the team involved in business scope definition, requirements, and solution playback sessions.
  • Exercise delegated authority over technical approach and engineering standards within architecture, technical trade-offs and risk disposition, team work allocation and prioritization, technical resource plans, vendor deliverable acceptance, and technical readiness recommendations.
