About The Position

The Economic Security Project (ESP) is seeking a skilled, people-centered project manager to join their team as Senior Manager of Human Resources and People Operations. This role reports to the Vice President of People, Finance, and Operations and works closely with the Chief of Staff. The primary responsibility is to translate ESP’s organizational values into a best-in-class staff experience. This involves overseeing various aspects of people operations, including building diverse talent pipelines, managing a rigorous hiring process, administering HR systems and compliance, advancing diversity and inclusion efforts, and supporting staff development and engagement. The ideal candidate is a driven professional capable of strategic thinking and hands-on execution, comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced, remote-first environment. They should possess a low-ego, collaborative approach, effectively managing day-to-day operations while advancing long-term strategic projects. The role requires balancing immediate operational needs with the discipline and vision for lasting impact.

Requirements

  • Background in human resources, talent acquisition, or people operations.
  • Proven track record of managing core HR operations, including end-to-end recruitment processes, compliance, and employee relations.
  • Advanced project management capabilities, with a history of leading multi-stakeholder initiatives from inception to completion.
  • Previous experience supporting or leading diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within an organizational context.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to build trust quickly and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including hiring managers, staff, and candidates.
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions in ambiguous environments.
  • High integrity and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential personnel matters.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions and issues, escalating complex matters as needed.
  • Lead end-to-end onboarding and offboarding processes, including system updates, onboarding plan execution, survey administration, and analysis of findings.
  • Manage benefits administration, coordinating with ADP and MetLife for FMLA cases.
  • Drive HR compliance efforts, ensuring timely completion of mandatory trainings like annual anti-sexual harassment training.
  • Handle HR communications, including reminders, policy updates, and staff announcements.
  • Coordinate performance management and feedback processes, including launching evaluation cycles, providing resources, tracking progress, and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Administer employee engagement and pulse surveys, synthesize results, and present data-driven recommendations.
  • Partner with leadership to design and execute manager and leadership development programming.
  • Conduct research projects to inform strategic decision-making within the People function.
  • Act as the 'Owner' in the MOCHA framework for various people operations projects, coordinating stakeholders and gathering input.
  • Project-manage the annual staff survey, analyzing data and reporting takeaways to staff and managers.
  • Identify process gaps and propose solutions to enhance efficiency, equity, and effectiveness in People Operations.
  • Own the end-to-end recruitment process, building and operationalizing a hiring strategy to attract diverse talent and ensure a positive candidate experience.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to define role requirements, skills, and competencies.
  • Evaluate and select sourcing channels to maximize reach and attract diverse talent.
  • Build and maintain a robust talent pipeline for current and future hiring needs.
  • Coordinate with external recruiting firms for hard-to-fill roles, ensuring ESP’s values are represented.
  • Partner with staff to foster a culture of recruitment and champion hiring initiatives.
  • Facilitate the DEI Committee, collaborating with leadership on agendas, materials, and the committee's work scope.
  • Lead planning and facilitation of the annual DEI retreat, including agenda development and logistics coordination.
  • Track DEI initiatives and outcomes, monitor progress, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Report on DEI progress to organizational leadership and staff, using data to demonstrate impact.
