About The Position

The Senior Product Manager will help shape the American Express Developer Experience and the Developer Portal, a strategic platform for developers, partners, and businesses to discover, understand, test, integrate with, and consume American Express digital and API capabilities. This broad platform product role spans product strategy, developer experience, APIs, identity and authentication, analytics, customer experience, and emerging AI technologies. The role calls for a strong product thinker who can work across customer and technical domains, understand complex developer journeys, identify meaningful customer and business problems, use data to develop insights, and translate those insights into product strategy and roadmaps. The position does not require software engineering expertise, but requires sufficient technical depth to work effectively with Engineering and Architecture teams on APIs, authentication, security, platform capabilities, and AI-enabled developer experiences. Success means making the developer ecosystem progressively easier to discover, understand, integrate with, and use. The Senior Product Manager will identify friction in developer and partner journeys and translate insights into secure, measurable, scalable platform capabilities, while preparing the experience for both human users and intelligent agents.

Requirements

  • Experience partnering closely with Engineering, Architecture, Design, Analytics, and business stakeholders.
  • Strong working knowledge of APIs and modern application integration concepts.
  • Familiarity with authentication, authorization, identity, and API security concepts, including OAuth, OIDC, mTLS, application credentials, and access controls.
  • Experience using quantitative and qualitative signals—including product analytics, customer feedback, CSAT, user research, operational metrics, and support insights—to drive product decisions.
  • Strong understanding of customer journeys, user-centered product development, experimentation, and iterative product improvement.
  • Ability to understand complex technical systems and work with technical teams to evaluate product and architecture tradeoffs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex concepts and explain problems, rationale, recommendations, and expected outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence across cross-functional organizations and operate effectively in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Intellectual curiosity and learning agility, particularly regarding emerging technologies and evolving developer behaviors.
