About The Position

As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering, you will lead a team responsible for building and operating core services within Oracle’s Fleet Management and Workload Orchestration platform. You will combine technical judgment with people leadership to deliver reliable distributed systems, improve engineering execution, and develop a high-performing team. You will partner with architects, peer engineering managers, and networking service teams to turn platform priorities into technical designs and delivery plans. The team’s work includes simplifying service operations and reducing manual effort. The role owns the design, delivery, and production operation of assigned services. It involves setting a team roadmap, guiding architecture and implementation, delivering automated fleet and workload capabilities, establishing effective engineering practices, and maintaining operational readiness and service health. You will also improve productivity through automation and developer tooling, coordinate integrations with OCI Networking and Infrastructure teams, and balance feature work, operational needs, and technical debt.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of engineering management experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and delivery ownership.
  • Strong technical judgment and ability to guide architecture and evaluate tradeoffs involving availability, consistency, performance, and operational complexity.
  • Demonstrated experience owning software delivery from requirements and design through deployment and ongoing production operation.
  • Track record of developing engineers, providing actionable feedback, and building effective engineering teams.
  • Experience with production operations, including monitoring, incident management, root cause analysis, and reliability improvements.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and coordinate delivery across engineering teams.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical decisions, delivery risks, and tradeoffs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with fleet management, workload scheduling or placement, infrastructure orchestration, or automated provisioning.
  • Experience developing shared platforms used by multiple engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking, virtualized infrastructure, and the operational needs of networking services.
  • Experience with distributed workflows, state reconciliation, failure recovery, and safe infrastructure changes.
  • Experience improving deployment safety, service reliability, infrastructure utilization, or operational efficiency through measurable engineering initiatives.
  • Familiarity with OCI or comparable large-scale cloud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, hire, coach, and develop software engineers; set clear expectations and support performance and career growth.
  • Own the design, delivery, and production operation of assigned services within the Fleet Management and Workload Orchestration platform.
  • Translate platform objectives into a team roadmap, milestones, and execution plans; manage priorities, dependencies, and delivery risks.
  • Guide technical design and implementation decisions with senior engineers and architects, addressing scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability.
  • Deliver capabilities to automate fleet lifecycle operations, workload placement, deployments, and capacity expansion within the team’s area of ownership.
  • Establish strong development practices through design and code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, and safe rollout and rollback procedures.
  • Own operational readiness and service health, including observability, on-call practices, incident response, and completion of corrective actions.
  • Improve engineering productivity through automation, developer tooling, and effective use of AI-assisted engineering tools.
  • Partner with OCI Networking and Infrastructure teams to clarify requirements, coordinate integrations, and support adoption of shared platform services.
  • Balance feature delivery, operational needs, and technical debt while building a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee scalability requirements, system optimization, performance and load testing, and the use of distributed state management and data plane platforms.
  • Guide fault-tolerant system design, including redundancy, replication, automatic failover, handling network disruptions, and meeting service level objectives.
  • Oversee performance indicators, telemetry, dashboards, and alerting to monitor system health.
  • Guide functional correctness, fault-injection and brown-out testing, and data replication and synchronization strategies.
