About The Position

Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence (BBBSI) is seeking a Senior LGBTQ+ Recruitment and Partnership Coordinator to support the growth of services for LGBTQ+ youth. This role involves community engagement, volunteer and youth recruitment, partnership development, outreach, advocacy, and resource identification. The Coordinator will build trusted relationships within LGBTQ+ communities to create sustainable pipelines of prospective mentors, mentees, families, and partners. Working with leadership, the Coordinator will ensure LGBTQ+ youth have access to safe and affirming mentoring opportunities. As a Senior Coordinator, this position requires greater independence, leadership in developing partnerships and recruitment strategies, and serving as an internal resource for LGBTQ+ community engagement and inclusive outreach. This is a hands-on role focused on community outreach and partnership development, prioritizing youth privacy, safety, and confidentiality. The Coordinator acts as an advocate and ambassador, connecting BBBSI with LGBTQ+ organizations, potential volunteers, families, referral partners, and internal teams. The role involves regular community engagement, travel within BBBSI's service area, and may include evening and weekend events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, education, psychology, communications, nonprofit management, community engagement, or a related field preferred. Equivalent relevant professional experience will be considered.
  • Two years of experience in community outreach, partnership development, volunteer recruitment, youth development, nonprofit programming, community engagement, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of successful experience in the LGBTQ+ Recruitment and Partnership Coordinator role at BBBSI, demonstrating the ability to independently perform the core responsibilities of the position.
  • Successful completion of identified professional development courses, trainings, and/or learning opportunities appropriate to progression to the Senior Coordinator level.
  • Experience working with LGBTQ+ communities, LGBTQ+ youth, and/or LGBTQ+-serving organizations strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing community partnerships, referral relationships, and community-based recruitment strategies strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with youth-serving organizations, mentoring organizations, community-based nonprofits, schools, healthcare providers, or similar organizations is preferred.
  • Prior experience with Big Brothers Big Sisters programming is a plus.
  • Must effectively learn and utilize BBBSI's internal systems and databases for tracking recruitment, outreach, partnership, and referral information.
  • Must be comfortable representing BBBSI publicly and communicating with individuals and groups in community settings.
  • Demonstrated commitment to creating safe, affirming, welcoming, and inclusive environments for LGBTQ+ youth.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement targeted, community-based outreach strategies to build a sustainable pipeline of prospective Bigs, Littles, and families.
  • Recruit LGBTQ+ individuals and affirming allies to serve as volunteer Bigs.
  • Conduct outreach respecting youth privacy, confidentiality, safety, and personal choice, reducing barriers to participation.
  • Represent BBBSI at recruitment events, community events, resource fairs, and other outreach opportunities, providing clear information about programs.
  • Build awareness of BBBSI's mentoring opportunities among LGBTQ+ youth, families, volunteers, organizations, and community networks.
  • Connect interested prospects with appropriate BBBSI staff for inquiry, enrollment, assessment, matching, and support.
  • Follow up with prospective volunteers, youth, families, and referral partners to maintain engagement.
  • Develop, strengthen, and maintain trusted relationships with LGBTQ+-serving organizations, youth-serving organizations, healthcare providers, educational institutions, businesses, professional associations, and community networks.
  • Build sustainable referral pathways connecting prospective Bigs, Littles, and families with BBBSI programs.
  • Maintain regular communication and engagement with key community partners and referral sources.
  • Take a lead role in cultivating and managing key strategic community partnerships and identifying new opportunities to expand BBBSI's reach within LGBTQ+ communities.
  • Identify career, educational, enrichment, social, wellness, and community opportunities that strengthen the experience of LGBTQ+ youth and mentoring matches, sharing resources with Program staff.
  • Ensure outreach and partnership-development efforts reflect the diversity within LGBTQ+ communities, including LGBTQ+ youth of color and other underserved populations.
  • Represent BBBSI as a visible community presence and advocate for LGBTQ+ youth at events like Pride, School District of Philadelphia events, community gatherings, partner events, and resource fairs.
  • Participate in coalitions, networks, community tables, and collaborative initiatives advancing youth wellbeing, access, belonging, and opportunity.
  • Serve as an ambassador for BBBSI's commitment to Access, Belonging, and Opportunity.
  • Increase community awareness of BBBSI's safe, affirming, and inclusive mentoring opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain clear referral and handoff processes for efficient connection of prospects to relevant BBBSI teams.
  • Share relevant community, referral, and partnership information with Program staff to support participant engagement and service delivery.
  • Collaborate with Program staff regarding recruitment needs, available volunteers, participant interests, referral opportunities, and community trends.
  • Support enrollment, matching, and match-support functions by ensuring appropriate and timely communication and information handoff.
  • Participate in efforts to incorporate youth voice, interests, and feedback into the LGBTQ+ youth experience at BBBSI.
  • Help identify barriers to participation and collaborate with internal teams on strategies to improve access and engagement.
  • Track outreach activities, community partnerships, referrals, recruitment activity, events, prospective participants, and recruitment-pipeline activity.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of partner contacts, outreach efforts, follow-up activities, and referral relationships.
  • Provide regular updates to the Director, Volunteer Recruitment & Program Partnerships regarding outreach activity, partnerships, referrals, recruitment results, pipeline development, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Use community partner, participant, and stakeholder feedback to recommend improvements to outreach and recruitment strategies.
  • Monitor recruitment and partnership trends and identify opportunities to strengthen BBBSI's reach within LGBTQ+ communities.
  • Independently evaluate outreach, recruitment, referral, and partnership results and recommend strategies to strengthen performance and community impact.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop and/or review inclusive, affirming, accessible, and privacy-conscious recruitment and outreach materials.
  • Work with Marketing and Communications to ensure materials accurately represent BBBSI's mentoring programs and commitment to affirming LGBTQ+ youth and families.
  • Partner with Advancement, Program, and other departments as appropriate to support organizational initiatives and community engagement.
  • Share knowledge, community insight, and resources that strengthen LGBTQ+-affirming practices across BBBSI.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding youth, families, volunteers, applicants, and other sensitive information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of BBBSI's mission and organizational needs.
