About The Position

Adaptive is hiring a Senior Java Distributed Systems Engineer to help build Aeron Sequencer, technology that applies state machine replication to capital markets. The engineer will work on distributed systems that enable other engineering teams to build performant, reliable software. This hands-on role offers opportunities to influence product decisions, architecture, engineering practices, and how the team communicates its work. The role involves analysing, designing, discussing, developing, testing, and operating distributed systems built on replicated state machines. The engineer will write maintainable Java code, evolve messaging protocols and software libraries, troubleshoot production systems, and improve correctness and performance through testing and measurement. The position participates in the team's on-call rotation after becoming familiar with the systems. Adaptive partners with capital, commodity, and digital market participants to deliver front-office technology solutions. The company has offices in London, New York, Barcelona, Montreal, and Manila. The role supports a highly flexible hybrid working model. The New York salary range is $240,000–$300,000 USD, with actual base pay determined by skills, experience, and other permitted factors.
