About The Position

Xcel Energy is hiring a Senior IT Solution Analyst (DBA) to support database environments for Energy Services, including Distribution, Transmission, and Nuclear business areas. The role partners with application support teams on projects of varying sizes and durations and works directly with customers to identify, prioritize, deliver, and operate IT solutions that meet business needs while minimizing cost.

The analyst leads and contributes to application lifecycle management, including roadmap planning, delivery, release support, and maintenance of application documentation and communications. In partnership with the business, the analyst ensures IT solutions keep pace with changing needs and researches industry practices, products, and processes that may best serve customers.

The position administers SQL Server and Oracle databases, including backup and recovery, performance tuning, and business continuity. It also contributes to solution delivery, requirements management, quality assurance, deployment, operational risk assessment, lifecycle planning, and ongoing validation of business value. The role is based in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. Xcel Energy supports a hybrid work model; many roles work onsite three days per week, Tuesday through Thursday, though expectations vary by role, team, and business needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Technology, Science, Business, or a related field, or four years of experience equivalent to the position.
• Five years of related functional experience.
• Experience with project or product delivery practices, including SDLC, Agile, and Waterfall.
• Ability to recommend innovative solutions to meet business needs.
• Ability to drive continuous improvement through lean and agile practices.
• In-depth knowledge of end-to-end processes and system capabilities, industry standards, and emerging technologies and methods.
• Ability to understand technical, functional, and operational details of relevant solutions.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and detail-orientation skills.
• Ability to build functional and technical subject matter expertise, process and tools expertise, and consistency in processes.
• In-depth knowledge or ability to quickly attain expertise in core IT components within the relevant domain.

Nice To Haves

• Experience as a database administrator supporting Energy Management System (EMS SCADA), Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS SCADA), Gas ACADA, Operational Technology, or Nuclear systems.
• Prior experience working at Xcel Energy.
• Strong technical knowledge of SQL Server database administration for SQL Server 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2025.
• Strong technical knowledge of Oracle database administration for 12c, 19c, and 26ai.
• Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) package development and implementation, and reporting services.
• Experience with database replication technologies, including mirroring, log shipping, and replication.
• Experience with Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM), RAC, and Data Guard technology.
• Experience with Oracle and SQL Server major-version upgrades.
• Experience with T-SQL, PL/SQL, shell scripting, and PowerShell scripting.
• Experience with Windows/SQL Server clustering and AlwaysOn Failover Cluster.
• Knowledge of managing PostgreSQL and MySQL databases.

Responsibilities

• Administer SQL Server databases, including backup and recovery, performance tuning, and business continuity.

• Contribute to and lead analysis aspects of roadmap delivery.
• Support and lead requirements management, quality assurance, and deployment activities.
• Identify and drive resolution of capability gaps and operational risks.
• Partner across organizations and with vendors to analyze the costs and benefits of options.
• Ensure solution delivery practices are structured, sound, and compliant.
• Build strong partnerships with teams, business partners, stakeholders, and customers across the organization.
• Work with customers to propose, prioritize, and deploy continuous improvement.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of business functions, processes, and needs, and liaise with business partners on IT industry capabilities.

• Assess application operations and system health, identify operational risks, and recommend lifecycle actions such as upgrades and decommissions.
• Support validation and measurement of business value for deployed solutions.

• Maintain expertise in analytical methods and tools, industry trends, and organizational goals to identify optimal technology solutions.
• Create and maintain necessary application-related documentation and communication.
