About The Position

Xcel Energy is hiring a Senior IT Solution Analyst (DBA) to support database environments for Energy Services, including Distribution, Transmission, and Nuclear business areas. Based in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, the position partners with application support teams on projects of varying sizes and durations and works directly with customers to identify, prioritize, deliver, and operate IT solutions. The analyst defines solutions and process changes that meet customer needs while minimizing cost, and leads aspects of application lifecycle management, including roadmap planning, delivery, and release support. The role also owns application documentation and communications, works with business partners to keep solutions aligned with evolving needs, and researches relevant industry practices, products, and processes.

The position includes SQL Server and Oracle database administration, solution delivery, stakeholder and relationship management, operational assessments, and subject-matter expertise. Xcel Energy supports a hybrid work model; many roles work onsite three days per week, Tuesday through Thursday, although expectations vary by role, team, and business needs.

The anticipated starting base pay is $84,900 to $120,566.66 per year. The position is eligible for an annual incentive program and a range of benefits, including health coverage, retirement plans, paid time off, and professional development support. The application deadline is November 5, 2026.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Technology, Science, Business, or a related field, or four years of experience equivalent to the position.
• Five years of related functional experience.
• Experience with project or product delivery practices, including SDLC, Agile, and Waterfall.
• Ability to recommend innovative solutions that meet business needs.
• Ability to drive continuous improvement through lean and agile practices.
• In-depth knowledge of end-to-end processes and system capabilities, industry standards, and emerging technologies and methods.
• Ability to understand technical, functional, and operational details of relevant solutions.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and detail-orientation skills.
• Ability to build functional and technical subject-matter expertise, process and tools expertise, and consistency in processes.
• In-depth knowledge of, or ability to quickly attain expertise in, core IT components within the relevant domain.

Nice To Haves

• Experience as a database administrator supporting Energy Management System (EMS SCADA), Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS SCADA), Gas ACADA, operational technology, or nuclear systems.
• Prior experience working at Xcel Energy.
• Strong technical knowledge of SQL Server database administration for SQL Server 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2025.
• Strong technical knowledge of Oracle database administration for versions 12c, 19c, and 26ai.
• Experience developing and implementing SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages and using reporting services.
• Experience with database replication technologies, including mirroring, log shipping, and replication.
• Experience with Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM), RAC, and Data Guard.
• Experience with major-version upgrades of Oracle and SQL Server.
• Experience with T-SQL, PL/SQL, shell scripting, and PowerShell scripting.
• Experience with Windows/SQL Server clustering and Always On Failover Cluster.
• Knowledge of managing PostgreSQL and MySQL databases.

Responsibilities

• Administer SQL Server databases, including backup and recovery, performance tuning, and business continuity.
• Administer Oracle databases, including backup and recovery, performance tuning, and business continuity.
• Contribute to and lead analysis aspects of roadmap delivery.
• Support and lead requirements management, quality assurance, and deployment activities.
• Identify capability gaps and operational risks, and drive their resolution.
• Partner across the organization and with vendors to analyze the costs and benefits of solution options.
• Ensure solution delivery practices are structured, sound, and compliant.
• Partner with teams, stakeholders, and business customers to propose, prioritize, and deploy continuous improvements.
• Build and maintain knowledge of business functions, processes, and needs, and liaise with business partners about IT industry capabilities.
• Collaborate across organizations and stakeholder groups to ensure solutions are compliant and secure.
• Assess application operations and system health, identify operational risks, and recommend lifecycle planning such as upgrades or decommissions.
• Support validation and measurement of business value for deployed solutions.
• Anticipate changing business needs and assess whether solutions need to change.
• Maintain expertise in analytical methods and tools, industry trends, and organizational goals to identify suitable technology solutions.
• Create and maintain application-related documentation and communications.
