About The Position

The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is hiring Senior Group Leaders for its School Age Child Care program at KIPP DC sites. This part-time, school-year role offers morning and evening hours in a supportive, collaborative afterschool environment. Senior Group Leaders positively impact children’s lives by leading engaging, developmentally appropriate activities and supporting children’s learning and well-being. The schedule is Monday–Friday, with optional before care from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and after care from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Locations include Webb Campus, 1375 Mt. Olivet Rd. NE, and Benning Campus, 4801 Benning Road SE. Compensation is $18.40–$23.00 per hour.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience working with children ages 3–10 in licensed or educational settings.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain it.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for children of all abilities.

Nice To Haves

• CDA or early childhood coursework.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise engaging, developmentally appropriate activities.
• Design lesson plans and classroom routines that spark curiosity and learning.
• Mentor and support Group Leaders in their daily responsibilities.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with families and leadership.
• Monitor safety, attendance, and behavior to ensure a thriving environment.
• Build meaningful, trusting relationships with young children.
