Senior Full-Stack Engineer (Backend Leaning)

Fairmarkit
•$180,000 - $230,000•Remote

About The Position

Fairmarkit is hiring a senior engineer to build products customers use for sourcing, including events, supplier bids, awards, and integrations with existing ERP and procurement suites. The role is full-stack but backend-leaning, with most work focused on domain models, APIs, event-driven services, and data accuracy. The engineer will collaborate with front-end engineers and designers, and should be comfortable shipping screens to production without needing to be a UI expert. The position spans product areas as priorities change, such as sourcing workflows and ERP integrations. Fairmarkit emphasizes engineering rigor, maintainable system design, and disciplined use of AI coding agents. The engineer will use AI tools in daily work and apply judgment to problem framing, system design, code review, testing, and operating software in production. Remote work opportunities may be limited to designated states. Compensation is described inconsistently in the posting: one range is $154,000–$225,000 including bonus plus equity and benefits, while another is $180,000–$230,000 including bonus plus equity and benefits. Final compensation depends on experience, skills, and location.

Requirements

  • Track record of shipping production software across the stack, with substantial backend depth.
  • Strong fundamentals in system design, clear interfaces, type safety, and well-chosen tests.
  • Professional experience with at least one statically typed language such as Java, C#, Go, Kotlin, Scala, or Rust, alongside TypeScript and Python.
  • Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools, with the discipline to review, correct, and own their output.
  • Ability to enter an unfamiliar domain, ask effective questions, and quickly identify the real constraint.
  • Habit of explaining decisions in writing, including design documents, clear pull request descriptions, and decision records.
  • Comfort collaborating across product, design, front-end engineering, and QA.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with procurement, ERP, or B2B commerce systems such as Coupa, SAP Ariba, Oracle, or NetSuite.
  • Experience with event-driven systems and data pipelines, including Kafka, change data capture, or Postgres at scale.
  • Experience at a startup or growth-stage company with ownership of outcomes rather than only tickets.
  • Work demonstrating how the candidate builds, such as open source contributions, a side project, or a write-up about how AI changed their work.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build features end to end, from domain model and API through the screen, in collaboration with product managers, designers, front-end engineers, and QA.
  • Own backend data models, service boundaries, event flows, and integrations that move purchase data between Fairmarkit and customers’ systems.
  • Build with AI coding agents and review, correct, and take ownership of their output to the same standard as manually written code.
  • Review code carefully, identify design problems before release, maintain type safety, and design out classes of bugs rather than relying only on tests.
  • Move across product areas as priorities change, ramp up quickly, and document newly learned information for teammates.
  • Mentor engineers who are new to an area and help shape how the company builds software with AI.
  • Explain decisions in writing through design documents, clear pull request descriptions, and decision records.
