About the position
The job overview for this role is that the Manager will be responsible for building and managing a team of engineers to develop a next-level fraud platform at Zepz. The platform will be used to detect and prevent fraudulent and illegal activities on the company's platform, minimizing disruption to user experience. The Manager will be involved in hiring, creating roadmaps, evaluating tools and technology, and executing the development of the platform. The goal is to build a world-class platform that supports the organization's mission of making remittance easy and secure for a global customer base.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage a team of engineers to develop services for a next-level fraud platform
- Detect and prevent fraudulent and illegal activities on the platform
- Minimize disruption to user experience while detecting fraudulent activities
- Create roadmaps, evaluate tools and technology, and execute plans for the fraud platform
- Recruit top software engineering talent and develop talent within the team
- Create a positive and high-performing environment
- Align the team on company priorities, goals, and OKRs
- Engage in hands-on participation in engineering tasks such as coding and peer reviews
- Act as the initial point of contact for the team and facilitate the inclusion of team members as required
- Work closely with Product Managers to align on team capacity
- Collaborate closely with Scrum Masters to foster engagement, focus, responsibility, and motivation in the team
- Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into roadmaps for delivering data services
- Take technical ownership of services related to the fraud platform
- Champion a mindset focused on maintaining a high standard for quality and operational resilience
- Lead cross-team efforts and drive execution
- Motivate team members, drive engagement, and steer professional development
- Have strong communications and presentation skills, comfortable with presenting at the executive level
- Experience with managing the design, build, and deployment of web services on cloud-based infrastructure
- Experience leading technology/tool evaluation/selection
- Experience with orchestration and containerization tools such as Kubernetes and Docker
- Bonus points for experience in the Financial or FinTech space
- Bonus points for experience working in a distributed team across different geographies and timezones
- Bonus points for being from the East Coast US/Canada
Requirements
- Managerial experience in building and managing a team of engineers
- Knowledge and experience in fraud detection and prevention
- Ability to create roadmaps and evaluate tools and technology
- Experience in building a world-class platform from first principles
- Proficiency in Java/Kotlin and cloud-based technologies (AWS and GCP)
- Familiarity with data analytics services and modern database services
- Strong emphasis on automation, testing, and performance testing
- Ability to recruit and develop software engineering talent
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Technical ownership of services related to fraud platform
- Experience with web services on cloud-based infrastructure
- Experience with orchestration and containerization tools (Kubernetes and Docker)
