About The Position

ChargePoint is seeking a Senior Director of Solutions Engineering to lead the team responsible for strategic enterprise projects and customized, large-scale EV charging solutions. The role serves as a strategic bridge between enterprise clients, Sales, and Product Engineering, enabling commercial and fleet customers to transition to electric mobility. The position combines technical vision, commercial judgment, and strategic execution, with an impact on revenue growth and ChargePoint’s sustainability goals. The Senior Director will manage, scale, and mentor a team of Solutions Engineers delivering technical pre-sales support and architecture design across critical markets. The role oversees technical feasibility studies and deployment strategies for complex charging networks, partners with executive sales leadership on high-stakes enterprise deals, advises major customers and internal engineering teams, and shares market trends and technical requirements that inform hardware and software roadmaps. Within the first 6 to 12 months, success includes establishing scalable pre-sales playbooks, optimizing technical discovery frameworks, and executing effective technical handoffs.

Requirements

  • 8–12 years of total engineering or technical pre-sales experience, including a proven record supporting complex enterprise sales cycles and large-scale hardware/software deployments.
  • 3–5 years of direct people-management or technical leadership experience at Manager, Director, or equivalent level.
  • Deep familiarity with EV charging infrastructure, including Level 2 and DC Fast Charging, power distribution, electrical load management, and microgrids.
  • Familiarity with large-scale, grid-connected electrical equipment, including medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, inverters, and utility service equipment.
  • Strong working knowledge of industry standards and communication protocols such as OCPP and OCPI, and of smart grid integrations.
  • Ability to explain complex engineering details to executive buyers while maintaining technical credibility with software developers, utility engineers, and facility managers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration (MBA), or a related field.
  • Experience scaling technical pre-sales or solutions engineering teams in the EV, renewable energy, or clean tech industries.
  • Established relationships with major utilities, such as PG&E, municipal transit authorities, or large-scale commercial real estate developers.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and mentor a high-performing Solutions Engineering team through complex sales cycles, customer discovery, and enterprise technical scoping.
  • Lead technical enablement and solution design, aligning EV charging hardware, software platforms, energy management systems, and maintenance and warranty services with customer site constraints and business goals.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Product Management, Firmware/Software Engineering, and Customer Success to turn market signals and customer feedback into actionable product roadmaps.
  • Oversee technical feasibility studies, load-capacity evaluations, and utility interconnection reviews for large-scale depot and public charging hubs.
  • Drive system and grid architecture design and integrations using industry protocols such as OCPP and OCPI.
  • Lead technical presentations, proofs of concept, and RFP responses for commercial fleets, real estate developers, and municipal transit authorities.
  • Establish and refine pre-sales playbooks, technical discovery frameworks, and standard documentation to shorten sales cycles and improve win rates.
  • Partner with the SVP of Sales to align technical pre-sales strategies with regional revenue goals and market expansion targets.
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point for enterprise accounts, negotiating and resolving engineering and deployment challenges during the sales process.
  • Promote continuous learning and maintain team expertise in EV infrastructure, microgrids, and energy storage.
