About The Position

The Mayor’s Office for International Affairs connects New York City to the world by building partnerships with the international community, including the United Nations, foreign governments, consulates, trade missions, and global city networks. As home to one of the world’s largest immigrant populations and the headquarters of the United Nations, New York City is uniquely positioned to serve as a global center for solidarity, collaboration, and problem-solving. The Office advances the City’s priorities through international cooperation and city diplomacy, strengthening relationships between international partners, City agencies, and local communities. Through diplomatic engagement and global partnerships, the Office works to elevate the voices and diversity of New Yorkers while ensuring that global cooperation delivers tangible benefits for working people across the five boroughs.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in international affairs, urban policy, government relations, public policy, economic development, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing partnerships with municipal governments, international organizations, global networks, or other public-sector stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of urban policy issues, including housing, transportation, climate, economic development, public health, and democratic governance.
  • Strong project management, relationship-building, and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate complex initiatives across multiple partners and sectors.
  • Experience working in international, governmental, or multilateral environments and a demonstrated commitment to international cooperation, city diplomacy, and democratic solidarity.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in international affairs, education, youth development, community engagement, public policy, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategic partnerships with international organizations, civil society, academic institutions, and municipal partners to advance mayoral priorities.
  • Lead flagship international initiatives and long-term partnership models that promote knowledge exchange, community resilience, and international cooperation.
  • Identify and manage special projects that deliver tangible benefits for New Yorkers and partner communities.
  • Advise the Commissioner and Mayor's Office on international policy developments, partnership opportunities, and emerging global issues.
  • Support strategic communications, public messaging, and thought leadership that highlight the City's international partnerships and global leadership.
  • Serve as the office's lead liaison for an assigned geographic region, maintaining relationships with governments, institutions, and key stakeholders.
