Senior Digital & Integrated Circuits Engineer

The Aerospace Corporation•El Segundo, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

The Aerospace Corporation’s Digital and Integrated Circuit Electronics Department (DICED), within the Mission Payloads Division, supports the design, modeling, simulation, verification, analysis, and testing of microelectronics and digital electronic boards, FPGA/ASICs, boxes, subsystems, and systems for civil, commercial, and national space systems. The department draws on its technical expertise, laboratories, prototyping, and modeling and simulation capabilities to deliver solutions for national space systems and civil customers. The selected candidate will work full time on-site at the company’s El Segundo, California facility. The engineer will serve as a technical authority, consultant, investigator, or project leader across multiple programs; provide expert guidance on customer projects and space flight worthiness; and conduct analytical and experimental studies involving digital and mixed-signal circuits, electronics, and systems. The role also includes mentoring technical staff and independently evaluating contractor designs, methodologies, and system performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
  • At least 12 years of experience in engineering or scientific roles related to space digital and microelectronic hardware for satellites and space systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise across the full lifecycle of space digital and mixed-signal systems, from concept and requirements through design, manufacturing, assembly, integration, testing, and on-orbit operation, at all system levels.
  • Deep hands-on knowledge of space qualification for electrical components, radiation effects, board- and component-level radiation testing, and worst-case circuit analysis (WCCA), including use of HyperLynx and PSPICE.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and proficiency with laboratory equipment and measurements for hardware anomalies and failures, including root-cause analysis and resolution in digital and mixed-signal circuits and subsystems.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work on-site at least four days per week and travel up to 25%.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government TS/SCI security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Proven ability to identify risks and lead risk-reduction initiatives in digital and mixed-signal electronics systems.
  • Extensive FPGA/ASIC design experience using hardware description languages such as VHDL, Verilog, or System Verilog.
  • Strong knowledge of mixed-signal analog design, including active filters, precision current drives, data-converter support circuitry, and related simulation techniques.
  • Skill in signal-integrity simulation, analysis, and testing, with a background in transmission-line theory, electromagnetics, PCB, and package-layout techniques.
  • In-depth understanding of high-speed digital communications, space payload electronics and subsystems, C&DH systems, and digital signal processing.
  • Current Secret or Top-Secret clearance with recent SSBI or reinvestigation.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical authority, consultant, primary investigator, or project leader on multiple programs, collaborating with internal and external customers.
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and expert advice on customer projects, including assessing the space flight worthiness of electronics and electronic systems.
  • Perform specialized analytical and experimental studies related to the design and development of digital and mixed-signal circuits, electronics, and systems.
  • Apply expertise in digital electronic systems for space applications to advance innovation and mission assurance.
  • Mentor less experienced technical staff and serve as a role model in the organization.
  • Evaluate and independently verify contractor designs, methodologies, and overall system performance.
