About The Position
WM is hiring a Senior Diesel Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel vehicles and equipment that support waste management services. The mechanic works in a repair and maintenance shop at WM’s Hardeeville, South Carolina hauling site, using modern tools and procedures to maintain diesel equipment and, at some locations, CNG trucks. The role involves emergency breakdown service calls, repair estimates, safety inspections, documentation, supporting other mechanics, and maintaining a safe work area. The position offers a $5,000 sign-on bonus, a $400 tool allowance, a $200 boot allowance, and benefits beginning on day one. The stated schedule is Monday through Friday, starting between 10 a.m. and noon and working until completion, with no weekends.
Requirements
- Four years of relevant work experience.
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must be over 18 years of age.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
- Team-oriented, able to work independently and as part of a team, comfortable with variety, and a determined problem solver.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
- Estimate time and material costs for vehicle repairs and new parts.
- Perform work within Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs).
- Respond to service calls for emergency breakdowns.
- Perform safety checks on vehicles.
- Complete required paperwork, documenting parts usage and accounting for repair times.
- Assist mechanics in completing project work.
- Review, complete, or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate and OSHA standards and follow established safety procedures.
