About The Position

WIRED seeks an experienced journalist to cover the researchers, engineers, and executives at the heart of the artificial intelligence industry. The correspondent will consistently break news about consequential people and decisions across the AI industry, including in boardrooms, policy shops, and research departments. The role requires technical understanding of AI and strong sourcing within frontier labs, with an emphasis on scoops, exclusives, hard news, and stories that place new information in broader context.

A substantial part of the role is writing a weekly AI-focused newsletter, using reporting to attract and retain subscribers, engage audiences, and build reader loyalty. The correspondent will also report quick exclusives and longer, differentiated stories, with opportunities to write long-form features and contribute to storytelling across social media, podcasts, video series, and live events.

The senior writer reports to WIRED’s Director, Business & Industry, and works collaboratively with colleagues across the newsroom and global markets. The position is in-office four days per week and is open to candidates in San Francisco or New York. This is a guild position.

Requirements

• At least 6 years of experience as a tech journalist, with a track record of breaking news, driving subscriber growth, and building and reaching a large audience.
• A proven track record of scoops and the ability to consistently break news on the artificial intelligence beat.
• Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage a constantly evolving workload and prioritize appropriately.
• A clear, engaging, jargon-free writing style.

Responsibilities

• Break impactful news and deliver scoops on a regular basis.
• Report and write at least six stories per month, balancing weekly newsletter sends with quick exclusives and longer, differentiated work.
• Engage and grow a loyal newsletter readership that drives digital subscriptions.
• Collaborate with other members of the desk and journalists across the WIRED newsroom.
• Work with audio, video, events, and social media teams as needed to develop storytelling for other platforms.
• Collaborate with global markets on relevant stories or packages.
• Take on additional projects and stories as assigned.
