About The Position

The Student Communications and Marketing team at Boise State University aims to ensure all students are aware of the opportunities and resources available to them, both before and during their time at the university, to foster an exceptional Boise State experience. As a recognized communications expert, the senior communications specialist will shape content marketing strategies, utilizing data to inform decisions on topics, channels, and the execution of communications and marketing campaigns. This role involves collaborating with campus partners to identify needs and scope the development of various media and communications, including websites, social media, print, audio, photography, presentations, and digital signage. Please note, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. This role is recognized as a subject matter expert who applies theory and practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field, requiring limited oversight. The specialist independently performs a full range of responsibilities, demanding deep job knowledge typically gained through higher education and experience. They will manage large projects or processes, addressing complex problems and analyzing issues of varied scope to determine solutions. This may include managing programs, formulating strategies, and administering policies, processes, and resources with a high degree of autonomy, influencing others regarding policies, practices, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent relevant experience plus 5 years experience.
  • Strong verbal, written, organization and presentation skills

  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong eye and editing skills; attention to detail
  • Knowledge of developing training materials and training sessions for system or project implementations

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of strategic approaches to communication plans and branding strategies tailored to specific department goals.
  • Develop timelines to ensure timely publishing of media and appropriate content/delivery planning for the target audience.
  • Drive innovations and enhancements to employee communications, programs, and platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, functional leads, and project managers to develop training and resource materials or sessions for media software, process workflows, and other assigned subject matter.
  • Regularly contribute to the development of new practices, techniques, and standards, acting as a recognized communications expert.
  • Create, coordinate, and implement strategic communications plans for diverse audiences, including traditional and non-traditional students, transfer students, first-generation students, and parents/families.
  • Plan and coordinate topic-specific communication pieces relevant to key points in the student lifecycle.
  • Determine appropriate messages, channels, timing, and audience factors to drive desired actions.
  • Ensure messaging consistency across multiple channels by enhancing and reinforcing brand positioning and voice.
  • Identify new innovative ideas and industry trends in content marketing and student communication.
  • Partner with communicators within the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and the Office of Communications and Marketing to align and optimize communication to student and parent audiences.
  • Utilize available analytics, in concert with the Digital Marketing Specialist, to strategically enhance outreach and communication effectiveness.
  • Conceptualize and write clear, engaging, and grammatically correct messaging for various media, including print collateral, web pages, emails, and social media posts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
