Adyen•Chicago, IL
•$100,000 - $130,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Adyen is hiring a Senior Collections Analyst for its Credit Risk Operations team in Chicago. The team manages global arrears and collections for Adyen's financial products, working across Credit Risk, Product, Finance, Legal, and Risk and Compliance. The analyst will own a portfolio of US merchants in arrears across cash advances, capital loans, charge cards, overdrafts, and hardware financing, resolving cases from initial outreach through repayment plans, recovery, or escalation. The role operates independently within agreed playbooks and approval limits, escalating exceptions such as settlements, write-offs, and legal action to senior colleagues. In addition to managing cases, the analyst will help improve collections processes, tooling, automation, and workflows to support scalable, compliant operations. This is a hybrid position in Chicago, with in-office work three times per week. The annual base salary range is $100,000–$130,000.

Requirements

  • Experience in collections, account recovery, or credit operations at a lender, bank, fintech, or payments company.
  • Hands-on experience managing a portfolio of overdue business or consumer credit accounts.
  • Working knowledge of US collections and servicing regulations and their day-to-day application.
  • Confidence handling difficult conversations, balancing empathy with firmness while maintaining relationships.
  • Clear written and spoken English, including the ability to explain terms such as breach of contract or default in plain language.
  • Strong organizational skills for tracking accounts, deadlines, and follow-ups without losing detail.
  • Comfort using collections platforms or CRM tools, and Excel or Google Sheets for basic reporting.
  • A low-ego, high-accountability approach to working with Risk, Legal, Finance, and Product.
  • Ability to leverage AI tools and automation to increase operational efficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience collecting on commercial credit products such as merchant cash advances, working capital loans, charge cards, overdrafts, or equipment financing.
  • Familiarity with FDCPA, UDAAP, state collection licensing rules, and fair-lending expectations as they apply to business credit.
  • Experience handling legal escalations, settlements, charge-offs, or third-party agency placements.
  • Comfort with SQL, Looker, or similar tools for analyzing delinquency trends and building reports.
  • A track record of improving a collections process, building a playbook, or helping automate a workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Own a portfolio of merchant accounts in arrears and drive each case to resolution by email.
  • Explain contractual obligations clearly, negotiate realistic repayment plans, and follow through until they are met.
  • Identify breaches of agreement, such as licensing issues or unauthorized business activity, and agree on next steps with Legal and Credit Risk.
  • Escalate cases at the appropriate time and coordinate recoveries with Risk, Finance, Legal, and Product so merchants receive a consistent answer.
  • Monitor portfolio health, including delinquency rates, roll rates, promise-to-pay, and cure rates, and flag emerging risks early.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready records of every merchant interaction and case decision.
  • Ensure recovery actions comply with US federal and state collections, servicing, and lending rules.
  • Help design and improve collections tooling, automation, and workflows so the operation can scale without adding headcount at the same rate.
