About The Position

Adyen is hiring a Senior Collections Analyst, Commercial Credit, for its Credit Risk Operations team in Chicago. The team manages global arrears and collections for Adyen’s financial products, working across Credit Risk, Product, Finance, Legal, and Risk and Compliance. The role owns a portfolio of US merchants in arrears across cash advances, capital loans, charge cards, overdrafts, and hardware financing, resolving cases from initial outreach through repayment plans, recovery, or escalation. The analyst operates independently within established playbooks and approval limits, escalating exceptions such as settlements, write-offs, and legal action to senior colleagues. The role also helps develop scalable, compliant, and increasingly automated collections processes, tooling, and playbooks. This is a hybrid position in Chicago, with three in-office days per week.

Requirements

  • Experience in collections, account recovery, or credit operations at a lender, bank, fintech, or payments company.
  • Hands-on experience managing a portfolio of overdue business or consumer credit accounts.
  • Working knowledge of US collections and servicing regulations and their day-to-day application.
  • Confidence handling difficult conversations while balancing empathy and firmness and maintaining relationships.
  • Clear written and spoken English, including the ability to explain terms such as breach of contract or default in plain language.
  • Strong organization and ability to manage numerous accounts, deadlines, and follow-ups accurately.
  • Comfort using collections platforms or CRM tools, and Excel or Google Sheets for basic reporting.
  • A low-ego, high-accountability approach to working with Risk, Legal, Finance, and Product.
  • Ability to use AI tools and automation to increase operational efficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience collecting on commercial credit products such as merchant cash advances, working capital loans, charge cards, overdrafts, or equipment financing.
  • Familiarity with FDCPA, UDAAP, state collection licensing rules, and fair-lending expectations as they apply to business credit.
  • Experience handling legal escalations, settlements, charge-offs, or third-party agency placements.
  • Comfort using SQL, Looker, or similar tools to analyze delinquency trends and build reports.
  • A track record of improving a collections process, building a playbook, or helping automate a workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Own a portfolio of merchant accounts in arrears and drive each case to resolution by email.
  • Explain contractual obligations, negotiate realistic repayment plans, and follow through until they are met.
  • Identify breaches of agreement, such as licensing issues or unauthorized business activity, and agree on next steps with Legal and Credit Risk.
  • Escalate cases appropriately and coordinate recoveries with Risk, Finance, Legal, and Product to provide merchants with consistent guidance.
  • Monitor portfolio health, including delinquency rates, roll rates, promise-to-pay, and cure rates, and flag emerging risks.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready records of merchant interactions and case decisions.
  • Ensure recovery actions comply with US federal and state collections, servicing, and lending rules.
  • Help design and improve collections tooling, automation, and workflows to support operational growth.
  • Escalate exceptions such as settlements, write-offs, and legal action to senior colleagues.
