About The Position

In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, the Senior Clinical Specialist advances the treatment of heart disease through support for technologies used in atrial fibrillation care. Working under general direction and with a high degree of independence, the specialist provides advanced engineering, sales, educational, and technical support for complex field inquiries involving EP products. The role serves as a senior clinical interface between the medical community and the business, maintains strong customer relationships, provides regional procedural case coverage, and shares product expertise to support sales and service.

The specialist applies independent judgment to plan, organize, and perform work; evaluates effective and cost-efficient business practices; monitors performance; and reports status to a manager. The role also mentors less experienced Clinical Specialists, contributes market feedback and guidance on future products, and supports education, training, demonstrations, troubleshooting, and clinical studies. It requires advanced EP product knowledge and the ability to independently perform complex cases and customer education.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• At least 1 year in a previous position.
• At least 3 years of clinical experience, internal or external.
• Prior industry or competitive experience if an external candidate.
• Solely dedicated to EP support.
• IBHRE EP certification.
• Considered a top performer among peers.
• Ability to perform complex EP cases independently.
• Ability to mentor and train EP CS and CA CS roles on complex mapping cases.
• Ability to independently conduct complex customer education events to communicate the value proposition of the full EP portfolio.
• At the time of promotion, performs in the top half of the number of cases completed across the clinical group in the defined region or area.
• Verification that all vendor credentialing requirements will be satisfied; these may include COVID-19 vaccination.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced engineering, sales, educational, clinical, and technical support for complex field inquiries involving EP products.
• Act as a senior clinical interface between the medical community and the business.
• Build and sustain credible business relationships with customers and share product expertise.
• Identify and report customer needs, product performance, and potential sales opportunities to sales representatives, directors, and management.
• Develop, lead, and facilitate EP product training and educational programs for healthcare professionals.
• Provide insight, guidance, and feedback to management about market feedback and next-generation product components.
• Provide regional EP procedural case coverage.
• Back up EP Sales Representatives with sales support, regional training seminars, clinical studies and data collection, troubleshooting, and new-product in-service training.
• Mentor and provide leadership to less experienced Clinical Specialists.
• Develop engineering, sales, and technical skills in alignment with the Arrhythmia Management strategy.
• Assist Training and Education departments with advanced educational seminars and the preparation of educational materials.
• Assist Sales with advanced product demonstrations for visiting physicians and sales personnel.
• Stay current on developments in areas of expertise, regulatory requirements, company and competitor products, markets, objectives, and industry trends.
• Resolve or facilitate resolution of problems, including identifying causes to prevent recurrence.
• Perform related functions and responsibilities as assigned.
