About The Position

Creative Information Technology Inc. (CITI) is an IT enterprise serving government and commercial sectors with solutions including Healthcare IT, Human Services, Identity Credentialing, Cloud Computing, and Big Data Analytics. The State of North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) seeks a Senior Automation Engineer to help automate and improve the build, deployment, and operation of NC FAST applications. The position is onsite in Durham County, North Carolina.

The engineer leads automation efforts for infrastructure provisioning, builds, and deployments. The role calls for a solid understanding of AWS infrastructure and the software release life cycle, and includes creating and maintaining Ansible playbooks, troubleshooting automation issues, and supporting consistent, reliable deployments across environments. The engineer collaborates with DevOps and application teams to improve CI/CD workflows and works with IT management to improve software engineering processes and practices. The position also interacts with architects, developers, the deployment team, and database administrators to automate tasks. Evening and weekend on-call work is required as needed to meet business needs.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience automating Linux OS and software patches and upgrades across multiple environments using tools such as Ansible.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience with a Bitbucket or Git source code management tool, including branching, merging, configuring, and administration.
• At least 7 years of hands-on experience automating build and deployment processes, including database changes, using tools such as Ansible.
• At least 7 years of experience developing automation scripts, operational utilities, and workflow scripts using Python, Bash, or Shell.
• At least 2 years of experience building and packaging applications with Docker and managing and scaling containerized workloads using Kubernetes.
• At least 4 years of experience in infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and environment management using Terraform and Ansible.
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience developing and managing CI/CD (DevOps) pipelines using tools such as TeamCity, Jenkins, and Ansible.
• Strong knowledge of Linux, Ansible Tower/AWX, YAML, automation best practices, and infrastructure-as-code principles.
• Solid understanding of AWS infrastructure and the software release life cycle.

Nice To Haves

• At least 2 years of strong knowledge and understanding of Amazon Web Services and infrastructure; highly desired.
• Experience debugging deployments, validating configurations, and improving release reliability.

Responsibilities

• Lead automation of infrastructure provisioning, build, and deployment activities for NC FAST applications.
