About The Position

The Senior Assistant Director, Admissions serves as a representative of Duquesne University at both on- and off-campus recruitment events. This role helps to design, implement, and execute undergraduate recruitment strategies and manages long-term admission goals in an assigned area as directed by the Admissions leadership team. The ideal candidate is a persuasive, creative problem solver who thrives in an upbeat environment with non-standard and varied working hours. This is a sales-like admissions and prospect management approach to a designated recruitment territory in an environment where recruiters are responsible for reaching enrollment and net revenue goals assigned to them. Daily responsibilities include communication with a large number of prospective students through heavy phone outreach, personal emails, notes, individual appointments, and group presentations. This position will involve the planning of prospective student recruitment activities, extensive outreach, and travel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited educational institution.
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Valid PA Drivers License.
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills to accommodate multiple priorities.
  • Exceptional leadership, customer service, interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Effective public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize work.
  • Strong technology skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to think strategically and work in a diverse environment both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift prospective student marketing materials (~30 pounds) and travel independently.
  • Ability to maintain a high energy level with an enthusiastic, positive approach creating an excellent rapport with prospective students and their parents, team members, and other departments within the University community.
  • Professional demeanor with the ability to deal with people in a courteous and tactful fashion regardless of circumstances.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.
  • Ability and willingness to contribute actively to the mission of the University and to respect the Spiritan Catholic identity of Duquesne University.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit undergraduate students and increase the visibility of Duquesne University within a recruitment territory to achieve enrollment objectives.
  • Communicate with a large volume of prospective students through outbound phone calling, text messaging, personal emails, handwritten notes, individual appointments (in-person and virtual), and the regular use of arsenal (both printed and web information as well as members of the campus community - i.e., faculty, alumni, current students, coaches and parents of current students).
  • Cultivate, engage, grade, persuade, and close prospective students, qualifying conversations and generating next steps (visit, apply, file FAFSA, submit enrollment deposit, submit housing application, register for classes, etc.).
  • Lead group information sessions and meet one-on-one with prospective students and parents, as well as give campus tours as needed.
  • Develop meaningful relationships with alumni, school counselors, and other constituents in the recruitment territory.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to effectively communicate regarding all aspects of Duquesne University, including but not limited to mission, core values, policies, academic programs, student life, outcomes, athletics, housing, financial aid, billing, advising, etc.
  • Make financial planning calls.
  • Report on a regular and ongoing basis to enrollment management leadership regarding all recruitment activities utilizing data from Banner, Slate, Power BI, etc.
  • Make informed decisions to improve recruitment tactics and further develop visibility and recruitment strategy, and take a "solutions-oriented" approach to partner with supervisor to solve challenges that arise.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and counsel to newer staff and step in for supervisors and assume interim roles when necessary.
  • Communicate actively and effectively with colleagues and partners across campus.
  • Liaise with/support the application review process for the assigned territory and school(s) or program(s).
  • Evaluate undergraduate applicants’ academic credentials/participate in the admission decision-making process, including awarding of appropriate scholarships.
  • Coordinate and execute a recruitment travel plan inclusive of college fairs, high school visits, information sessions, and regional receptions. Travel may occur on weekdays and weekends.
  • Project and manage travel budget on a university procurement card.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
