Senior Analytics Engineer - Regulatory Reporting

Underdog
$160,000 - $195,000Remote

About The Position

As a Senior Analytics Engineer on our Regulatory Reporting team, you'll own the data platform that powers Underdog's prediction markets business. This is a high-impact, zero-to-one opportunity. We're scaling fast and building the regulatory reporting infrastructure from the ground up. You'll work directly with regulatory bodies, partner across engineering, product, compliance, and senior leadership, and have broad exposure to how a federally regulated prediction markets exchange operates at every level. It starts with hands-on work in a process that's still being built. That's how you'll learn the system and understand exactly what needs to be automated. The goal is to build your way there: purpose-built dbt models, automated validations, resilient pipelines, and eventually a platform that runs with minimal manual intervention. If you're the kind of engineer who wants to build something from scratch that genuinely matters, this is it.

Requirements

  • Builder first: You want to build a platform, not maintain a spreadsheet. You think in systems, pipelines, and automation, and you know what it takes to build something that runs reliably.
  • Investigator: When something breaks, you dig. You're comfortable in raw data, you chase root causes, and you don't stop until you know exactly what happened and why.
  • Regulator-facing: You can hold a conversation with a regulatory body, translate ambiguous requirements into data definitions, and represent the team externally. This is not a back-office role.
  • Reliable under deadline: You understand what it means to own a process with a hard cutoff. You're accountable, you communicate early when something looks off, and you don't leave things for someone else to catch.
  • Strong SQL and dbt: You can write complex queries, build modular dbt models with proper testing, and you care about the quality of what you ship.
  • Excited by the scope: You want a role where your work touches engineering, product, compliance, and leadership. You thrive when you can see how everything connects.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a federally regulated environment at a prediction markets platform, fintech, crypto exchange, or neobank.
  • Background in regulatory reporting, reconciliation, or trade-level data at a tech-forward financial company.
  • Experience in the sports industry, particularly fantasy sports or sports betting.
  • Experience building automated reporting pipelines or validation frameworks from scratch.
  • Experience with data contracts, schema registries, or similar approaches to managing upstream data dependencies.
  • Familiarity with FIXML, FIX protocol, or other financial message formats used in trade reporting.
  • Familiarity with orchestration tooling (Airflow or similar) and pipeline monitoring.
  • Python for data investigation, tooling, or lightweight automation.
  • Any exposure to prediction markets, derivatives, or exchange operations.

Responsibilities

  • Own requirements for our regulatory reporting data platform, working directly with regulatory bodies to define and refine what's needed as prediction markets continue to evolve.
  • Design and architect purpose-built dbt models and pipelines connected directly to raw data, powering our full suite of regulatory reports independent of upstream analytics models.
  • Define the automated validation layer: test cases, cross-validation of reporting outputs, and alerting so that when something breaks, the team knows exactly what and why.
  • Lead audit and exam support, own the data side of exam responses, and represent the team with regulators and internal compliance.
  • Drive break investigations to root cause, own the engineering relationship, and set the standard for how permanent fixes get scoped and shipped.
  • Design and lead the on-call rotation framework for the broader team.
  • Define how upstream data changes from product and engineering get monitored and governed through the reporting layer.
  • Own the roadmap for surveillance reporting, market maker monitoring, and pre-launch submission validation as the function grows.
