About The Position

This role supports tax department training and mentoring initiatives by developing and facilitating team training sessions, responding to questions and information requests, creating and updating training documents, and providing one-on-one training and mentoring. It also supports the development of tax planning strategies by providing business financial facts, researching tax rules, performing technical analysis, writing memoranda, and developing PowerPoint transaction step plans. The role manages low to medium complexity federal and state tax returns, forms, and reporting, including gathering financial data, analyzing and incorporating it into returns, preparing work papers, managing tax notices, and recommending resolutions. It also supports the tax returns process by facilitating audit documentation, responding to auditor inquiries, compiling data, and creating reports. The position demonstrates expertise in tax compliance practices, supports business solutions by building relationships with stakeholders, and ensures compliance with company policies and values. Requirements

  • MUST HAVE COMPLETED A SUMMER 2026 WALMART OR SAMS CLUB INTERNSHIP TO BE ELIGIBLE.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field OR 2 years’ experience in accounting, finance, income tax compliance, or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Supports tax department training and mentoring initiatives by developing and facilitating team training sessions, responding to questions and information requests from team members, creating and updating training documents, and providing one-on-one training and mentoring to associates.
  • Supports the development of tax planning strategies by providing business financial facts, researching tax rules related to the area managed, performing technical analysis, writing supporting memoranda, and developing Power Point transaction step plans.
  • Manages low to medium complexity federal and state tax returns, forms, and reporting of operations by gathering financial data from departments and divisions, analyzing and incorporating data into returns, preparing work papers and supporting schedules, obtaining taxability status, managing tax notices, and recommending resolutions to issues within established timelines to senior management.
  • Reviews and responds to information requisitions, processes financial and tax data using professional tax software, partners with stakeholders to determine opportunities for and ensuring application of tax credits, recovering refunds, and supporting the execution of tax planning by updating tax analysis and working with tax leadership.
  • Supports the tax returns process by facilitating audit documentation maintenance and procedural developments by sharing audit process information with Compliance, communicating audit process irregularities to appropriate management, responding to auditor inquiries as needed, compiling data and creating reports to support senior management on state audit projects, and escalating potential exposure items to senior analysts and management.
  • Ensures accuracy of tax returns, forms, and audits by assessing tax work papers for federal, state, and international operations and advising internal and external customers on company tax compliance practices.
  • Demonstrates uptodate expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices, supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs, and building commitment for perspectives and rationales.
  • Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders, identifying business needs, determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices, monitoring progress and results, recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities, and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities.
