About The Position

Works as a senior airfield electrician at Charlotte Douglas International Airport primarily performing high voltage airfield electrical work installing cabling, transformers, lights both in pavement and above pavement, and airfield signage; locating and repairing malfunctions in electrical circuits/equipment/regulators; inspecting, servicing, testing, performing PMs, and repairing systems. Performs other general maintenance work incidental to the above duties as necessary and maintains parking lot lights and bus shelter lights.

Requirements

No minimum level plus five years of experience OR High School Graduate or Equivalent plus three years of experience
Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify for City driving permit.
Successful candidate must successfully pass and obtain Movement Area Training (MAT) Endorsement within the first 6 months of employment in order to maintain employment.
Knowledge of principles of electrical circuits, wiring systems, and construction.
Read and write sufficiently to complete paperwork and read schematic designs and blueprints.
Ability to perform journey-level work on electrical and mechanical systems.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, tenants, and the public.
Follow verbal and written instructions.
Spends about 70% of the time standing, bending, reaching, and walking. The rest of the time includes a combination of sitting, twisting, kneeling, squatting, crawling, lifting, shoveling, carrying, and driving.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
About 5% of the time, can lift, pull, or carry up to 100 lbs. a short distance, with another person.
Works primarily outside.
May include exposure to inclement weather, machinery, dust, chemicals, fumes, solvents, moving objects/vehicles, scaffolding, ladders, vibrating tools, excessive noise, large crowds, and slippery or uneven surfaces.
May use heavy equipment, electric drill, electric saw, pipe wrench, pick-up truck, and all hand tools.

Nice To Haves

High school graduate/GED required, preferably with college-level electrical courses.
NC electrical license preferred.
AAAE-ACE (American Association of Airport Executives - Airport Certified Employee) certificate and ADB-CAP certification from ADB Safegate required.
Minimum of five years of experience in the electrical trade required, or an associate’s degree with three years of experience required.
Working knowledge of other building trades required.
Must be familiar with or have the ability to become familiar with FAA Part 139 standard requirements for the airfield environment and TSA airport security requirements.

Responsibilities

Installs, repairs, and maintains airfield lighting circuits, airfield lighting control systems, lighting regulators, emergency generators, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), transfer switches, and other miscellaneous building electrical duties.
Tests operational efficiency of airfield lighting circuits, electrical lighting regulators, and electronic test equipment, and maintains logs.
Conducts maintenance checks and makes repairs in compliance with specifications and FAA requirements.
Installs, repairs, and maintains aircraft ramp lighting.
Coordinates parking lot lighting installation and repair with contract vendors.
Serves as lead worker as needed.
Trains other employees.
Operates motorized vehicles as needed, including aerial lifts, forklifts, trenchers, backhoes, and pick-up trucks.
Provides inspections on Airport construction projects.
Subject to emergency call-back for equipment repairs and inclement weather.
