About The Position

RS&H is seeking a Senior Airfield Engineer/Project Manager to join their nationally recognized Aviation Practice in Salt Lake City, Utah. This role offers the chance to lead complex airfield projects, guide a growing design team, and significantly contribute to the expansion of their aviation presence in Utah, Idaho, and the surrounding region. The position involves managing projects and multidisciplinary teams, collaborating directly with airport clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders. Opportunities include supporting work in Salt Lake City and Boise, as well as collaborating with RS&H aviation professionals nationwide on diverse airport projects. The company has a long-standing presence in Salt Lake City and aims to strengthen client relationships, develop new business, and grow the local aviation team with support from the Denver office and a national network of aviation professionals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or a professionally recognized equivalent discipline from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant civil engineering experience, including at least two years of airport or airfield design experience.
  • Professional Engineer license in UT or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Demonstrated experience independently managing engineering projects and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Experience developing project scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans.
  • Proven ability to independently develop engineering designs, plans, specifications, and documents for airfield infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written, verbal, client-service, and team-leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel periodically to project sites, client meetings, and other RS&H offices.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing the design and delivery of runway, taxiway, apron, pavement, drainage, utility, or other airfield infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of FAA design criteria, advisory circulars, funding requirements, and airport construction processes.
  • Established relationships with airport or aviation clients in Utah, Idaho, or the surrounding region.
  • Experience supporting business development, client capture, proposals, and project interviews.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and helping develop or grow a design team.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as project manager and lead the successful delivery of airfield design projects from planning through construction.
  • Leverage RS&H’s national aviation expertise, technical specialists, established project-delivery resources, and business-development support to successfully deliver work and help grow the regional practice.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day work of engineers, designers, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and technical approaches.
  • Lead or oversee the geometric design of runways, taxiways, and aprons; bituminous and concrete pavement design; stormwater and utility infrastructure design; and construction administration.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource and provide mentorship, quality oversight, and professional development support to other team members.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with airport clients, airlines, the FAA, contractors, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
  • Identify and support business-development opportunities, including client engagement, pursuit strategy, proposal development, and interviews.
  • Help expand RS&H’s aviation client base and market presence throughout Utah, Idaho, and the broader region.
  • Collaborate with aviation professionals across RS&H’s offices and contribute to both regional and national projects.
  • Support the continued development of a strong, connected, and high-performing Salt Lake City team.
