About The Position

Milliman’s CMH Health AI Product & Engineering team builds and operates commercial software products that support healthcare pricing, contracting, benefit design, regulatory work, and competitive intelligence. The Senior AI Product Manager is a technically engaged leader who owns technical direction and delivery quality for assigned products or cross-system workstreams. The role partners with product owners, engineers, and healthcare subject-matter experts to make architectural decisions, strengthen verification and release practices, and remove recurring delivery obstacles. It involves examining code, investigating production behavior, and building critical components, as well as guiding engineers and AI-assisted development tools, creating reusable solutions, and developing greater technical ownership across the team. The position designs pragmatic service boundaries, APIs, data models, and integrations; turns business needs into executable technical plans; owns technical delivery commitments; and raises risks early. It builds verification into delivery through automated testing, data-quality controls, regression checks, and AI evaluation practices. It also improves deployment, monitoring, rollback, and support practices; investigates recurring failures; and promotes accountable use of coding agents and other AI tools. The role coaches engineers, supports product rollout and adoption, and partners with domain and control authorities to meet quality and risk-management requirements. The preferred work locations are Milliman’s Chicago, Milwaukee, or Hartford offices; remote candidates will also be considered. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future immigration support or sponsorship from Milliman. The expected application deadline is March 25, 2027. The overall salary range is $131,600–$249,780, with location-specific ranges described in the posting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • At least six years of relevant experience in software engineering, data-intensive systems, platform engineering, or closely related work.
  • At least six months performing comparable responsibilities, including technical direction, delivery ownership, and developing others.
  • Strong production-software engineering skills, including the ability to inspect, debug, and improve implementations.
  • Experience designing and operating cloud-based systems on Azure or a comparable platform, including deployment, identity and access, observability, and operational reliability.
  • Strong understanding of SQL, data modeling, APIs, and cross-system integration.
  • Demonstrated judgment concerning testing, data integrity, security boundaries, failure modes, and release evidence.
  • Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools and a disciplined approach to validating their output.
  • Evidence of leading substantial technical work through delivery while managing dependencies, scope, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, constructive technical pushback, and a record of helping other engineers become more capable.
  • Curiosity about the business behind the software and willingness to learn complex healthcare and actuarial workflows.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for immigration support or sponsorship from Milliman now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Azure services, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, or Databricks.
  • Experience in healthcare analytics, claims data, actuarial systems, or another regulated, data-intensive domain.
  • Experience with production AI-enabled workflows using evaluation datasets, traceability, and appropriate human review.
  • Experience modernizing established applications and data pipelines without disrupting users.
  • Experience reducing recurring support effort, release friction, or cloud operating costs through measurable improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Design service boundaries, APIs, data models, and integrations that balance reliability, security, performance, cost, and maintainability; explain tradeoffs and select practical solutions.
  • Work with product owners and domain experts to clarify requirements, identify dependencies, and sequence work into small, testable increments.
  • Own technical delivery commitments and raise scope, budget, or timing risks early.
  • Strengthen automated tests, data-quality controls, regression checks, and AI evaluation practices; establish evidence that complete workflows work before release.
  • Establish practical deployment, monitoring, rollback, and support practices; investigate recurring failures and reduce manual intervention.
  • Guide the use of coding agents and other AI tools, including context management, generated-code review, evaluation, and appropriate human oversight.
  • Measure AI-assisted engineering improvements through complete delivery outcomes rather than code volume.
  • Improve shared engineering patterns and tooling where they address demonstrated needs, and help teams adopt them without unnecessary abstraction or approval bottlenecks.
  • Delegate meaningful ownership, review designs and implementations, provide timely feedback, and coach engineers through difficult technical decisions.
  • Stay connected to consultants and users, support rollout and adoption, and explain technical risks clearly.
  • Partner with appropriate domain and control authorities to meet quality and risk-management requirements.
  • Establish priorities and baselines with the team and deliver workflow improvements with acceptance evidence and operational ownership.
  • Help improve reusable verification and release practices, reduce recurring technical blockers and avoidable manual interventions, and develop engineers’ independent ownership.

Benefits

  • Flexible Spending Accounts for dependent care, transportation, and eligible medical expenses.
  • Paid time off accruing from the first day of work; full-time employees accrue 15 days per year, prorated for employees working less than full-time.
  • At least 10 observed holidays per year.
  • Family-building benefits, including adoption and fertility assistance.
  • Up to 11 weeks of paid parental leave for employees who meet eligibility criteria.
  • Life insurance and AD&D, with premiums fully covered by Milliman.
