Senior AI Product Manager (CMH Health)

Milliman•Brookfield, WI
•$131,600 - $249,780

About The Position

Milliman’s CMH Health practice is seeking a technically engaged leader to turn challenging business workflows into reliable software and help engineers do the same. The Senior AI Product Manager owns technical direction and delivery quality for assigned products or cross-system workstreams, collaborating with product owners, engineers, and healthcare subject-matter experts to make sound architectural decisions, strengthen verification and release practices, and remove recurring delivery obstacles. This role involves hands-on engineering as well as leadership. The successful candidate should be comfortable examining code, investigating production behavior, and building critical components. The role also guides engineers and AI-assisted development tools, creates reusable solutions, and develops stronger technical ownership across the team. Milliman’s CMH Health AI Product & Engineering team creates and operates commercial software using the firm’s healthcare expertise. Its products support clients in pricing, contracting, benefit design, regulatory work, and competitive intelligence. The team is shifting toward scalable intellectual property and uses generative AI throughout product design, development, and delivery. The position is preferred to be based on-site in Chicago, Illinois; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; or Hartford, Connecticut. Remote candidates will also be considered. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future immigration support or sponsorship from Milliman. The expected application deadline is March 25, 2027.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • At least six years of relevant experience in software engineering, data-intensive systems, platform engineering, or closely related work.
  • At least six months performing comparable responsibilities, including technical direction, delivery ownership, and developing others.
  • Strong production-software engineering skills, including the ability to inspect, debug, and improve implementations.
  • Experience designing and operating cloud-based systems on Azure or a comparable platform, including deployment, identity and access, observability, and operational reliability.
  • Strong understanding of SQL, data modeling, APIs, and cross-system integration.
  • Demonstrated judgment regarding testing, data integrity, security boundaries, failure modes, and evidence needed before releasing changes.
  • Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools and a disciplined approach to validating their output.
  • Evidence of leading substantial technical work through delivery while managing dependencies, scope, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, constructive technical pushback, and a record of helping other engineers become more capable.
  • Curiosity about the business behind software and willingness to learn complex healthcare and actuarial workflows.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future immigration support or sponsorship from Milliman.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Azure services, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, or Databricks.
  • Experience in healthcare analytics, claims data, actuarial systems, or another regulated, data-intensive domain.
  • Experience with production AI-enabled workflows using evaluation datasets, traceability, and appropriate human review.
  • Experience modernizing established applications and data pipelines without disrupting users.
  • Experience measurably reducing recurring support effort, release friction, or cloud operating costs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead pragmatic architecture and integration by designing service boundaries, APIs, data models, and integrations that balance reliability, security, performance, cost, and maintainability.
  • Translate business needs into executable technical plans by clarifying requirements, identifying dependencies, sequencing testable increments, owning technical delivery commitments, and raising scope, budget, or timing risks early.
  • Strengthen automated tests, data-quality controls, regression checks, and AI evaluation practices, with evidence that complete workflows work before release.
  • Improve production readiness and operability by establishing deployment, monitoring, rollback, and support practices; investigating recurring failures; and reducing manual intervention through engineering improvements.
  • Guide accountable use of coding agents and other AI tools, including context management, generated-code review, evaluation, and appropriate human oversight; measure delivery outcomes rather than code volume.
  • Create reusable engineering capabilities and help teams adopt them without unnecessary abstraction or approval bottlenecks.
  • Develop independent engineers by delegating ownership, reviewing designs and implementations, providing timely feedback, and coaching technical decision-making.
  • Connect engineering decisions to user outcomes by working with consultants and users, supporting rollout and adoption, communicating technical risks, and partnering with domain and control authorities on quality and risk requirements.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees, dependents, and domestic partners.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offering confidential support for personal and work-related challenges.
  • 401(k) plan with company matching and profit-sharing contributions.
  • Discretionary bonus program.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts for dependent care, transportation, and eligible medical expenses.
  • Paid Time Off accruing from the first day of work; full-time employees accrue 15 days per year, while employees working less than full-time accrue prorated PTO.
  • At least 10 observed holidays per year.
  • Family building benefits, including adoption and fertility assistance.
  • Up to 11 weeks of paid parental leave for employees who meet eligibility criteria.
  • Life insurance and AD&D, with premiums fully covered by Milliman.
  • Short-term and long-term disability, fully paid by Milliman.
