About The Position

The SEIU Transport Assistant escorts and transports patients between patient units and clinical services, and delivers specimens, equipment, supplies, records, and other items. The role also supports patient care staff, distributes meals and snacks under a nurse’s direction, assists with stocking and equipment setup, cleans equipment as directed, sends and delivers carts through the supply transport system, and performs clothing room clerk duties. The position works under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Transportation Center. The employee may be assigned to different areas within the department and receive instructions from the supervisor of the assigned area. The role has no supervisory authority, but assists with instruction and training of new Transport Assistants.

Requirements

Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Ability to push, pull, and lift patients, supplies, and equipment.

Responsibilities

Escort and transport new admissions, inpatients, and outpatients between patient units and clinical services, including x-ray, outpatient departments, the Emergency Department, Operating Rooms, and the Ambulatory Surgical Center.
Assist nursing staff with restraining disturbed patients and handling unusually heavy patients; transport deceased patients.
Pick up and deliver specimens, patient records, requisitions, patient mail, pharmaceuticals, and other items on a scheduled or dispatched basis.
Deliver supplies and equipment from the Equipment Center and transport and set up equipment such as overhead frames, trapezes, and footboards.
Distribute meals and snacks to patients under the direction of a nurse.
Make beds and help stock shelves with linen and other supplies.
Clean equipment as directed.
Send and deliver carts on the supply transport system.
Perform duties as a clothing room clerk.
Assist in the instruction and training of new Transport Assistants.
