About The Position

The Security Patrol Officer is responsible for conducting proactive, high-visibility preventive patrols of Lipscomb University's main campus and off-site facilities, including Lipscomb Academy and Spark Downtown. This role involves responding to dispatched calls for service and assistance, such as medical emergencies, building lock/unlock requests, vehicle assistance, traffic control, safety concerns, and reporting suspicious activity. The officer will also conduct scheduled building lock-ups and unlockings, observe and investigate unusual circumstances, and document potential security concerns like lighting, access control, alarm systems, and fire safety. Enforcement of parking regulations through ticketing, immobilizing, or towing is also a key responsibility. The position requires developing and maintaining positive relationships with the university community, demonstrating strong judgment and critical thinking, and assisting other security personnel as needed. The officer will also support special events and work collaboratively to enhance patrol procedures and protocols. This role requires working independently and cooperatively, utilizing report writing software, and staffing the Downtown Spark location as needed. The officer may detain/arrest subjects within state guidelines and assist first responders. A Christ-like servant attitude is expected in all interactions.

Requirements

  • Have a valid Tennessee driver’s license.
  • Pass background check and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience in security, law enforcement, military, corrections, or combination
  • Have Active Tennessee Armed Guard License.
  • Understanding of basic communications software and technology
  • Understanding of basic patrol and dispatch procedures
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pro-active, high visibility preventive patrols of Lipscomb University main campus and any/all off site facilities.
  • Respond to dispatched calls for service/assistance via Lipscomb University Security dispatch center.
  • Respond to requests via dispatch for safety escorts of students, faculty, staff, or visitors.
  • Conduct scheduled locks/unlocks of buildings and/or rooms across the university campus.
  • Observe and investigate any unusual or suspicious circumstance.
  • Remain attentive for, report, document and follow up on potential security concerns and hazards.
  • Enforce parking regulations on campus through ticketing, immobilizing, and/or towing as appropriate.
  • Work with Parking Coordinator to conduct closures of parking spaces/lots for scheduled events.
  • Participate in community relations activities as directed.
  • Develop and maintain healthy relationships with university faculty, staff, students, & families.
  • Demonstrate a high level of awareness, good judgment, and critical thinking skills.
  • Utilize experience and skills to respond appropriately when threats to property or individuals occur.
  • Regularly self-audit and evaluate procedures, systems, and facilities, and actively engage in developing and enhancing these areas.
  • Assist Academy School Security Officers with any needs related to Academy security operations.
  • Assist with any/all special events on university campus.
  • Actively work with Director of Operations to develop and enhance patrol procedures, protocols, and training.
  • Work independently and is self-sufficient.
  • Work with others in a cooperative, collaborative manner.
  • Utilize report writing program to document incidents on campus as needed.
  • Staff Downtown Spark location as needed.
  • Detain/arrest subjects as needed within guidelines prescribed by the State of Tennessee Armed Guard Licensing.
  • Assist First Responders (Police, Fire, EMS) as requested when they are dispatched to university campus.
  • Always conduct yourself in a professional manner and exemplify a Christ-like servant attitude towards others in the Lipscomb Community.
  • Any other tasks as directed by shift supervisor, Director of Operations, Support Service, and/or Communications, and the Executive Director.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, as appropriate.
  • Maintain current certifications and licenses, in coordination with the Director of Operations.
  • Engage in additional duties as necessary.
  • Actively participate in department training (including but not limited to firearms training, less lethal weapons, de-escalation, active shooter, vehicle operations, officer safety, etc.)
  • Actively participate in accreditation processes, as tasked by Director of Operations and/or Executive Director.
  • Maintain all issued equipment to be always operational.
