About The Position

The Security Officer ensures the timely and professional delivery of security services at Bedford Memorial Hospital and assists in protecting life and property. The officer monitors assigned areas for suspicious or threatening behavior and may work fixed posts, including posts responsible for pedestrian or vehicle traffic. Duties may include guarding patients who could pose a danger to themselves or others, parking vehicles, checking doors, providing escorts, assisting police officers and motorists, and supporting hospital staff. The role includes preparing and reviewing security-related reports, communicating with people across society, and promoting cooperation with hospital employees. The officer may transport, guard, or provide security to patients, inmates, staff, and visitors; assist outside agencies and law enforcement personnel; ensure duty posts are staffed and facilities secured; provide crowd and traffic control; operate standard issued equipment; respond to emergencies; and perform special assignments or other duties as directed by management. Driving positions require a current driving record and compliance with eligibility requirements.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Valid Virginia driver's license required.
Must possess a driving record within the scope of Carilion's Driver Regulations.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Computer keyboarding skills.
IAHSS Basic Training Certification required within one year of hire.
IAHSS Advanced Training Certification required within two years of hire.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience as a security officer preferred.

Responsibilities

Monitor fixed posts and perform the services required at those posts.
Prepare and review security-related reports as required.
Communicate effectively with all segments of society and promote cooperation among security officers and hospital employees.
Transport, guard, and/or provide security to patients, inmates, staff, and visitors as needed.
Interact with and assist outside agencies and law enforcement personnel conducting business at the hospital.
Ensure assignments are fulfilled, duty posts are staffed, and facilities are properly secured.
Monitor and provide crowd and traffic control on hospital property when needed.
Operate and use standard issued equipment.
Respond to emergencies when needed.
Perform special assignments and other duties as assigned or directed by management.
