About The Position

The Security Officer ensures the timely and professional delivery of security services at Bedford Memorial Hospital and assists in protecting life and property. The officer monitors assigned areas for suspicious or threatening behavior and may work at fixed posts, including monitoring pedestrian or vehicular traffic. Duties may include guarding patients who may pose a danger to themselves or others, parking vehicles, checking doors, providing escorts, assisting police officers and motorists, and supporting hospital staff.

Requirements

• High school education or equivalent.
• Valid Virginia driver's license.
• Driving record must meet Carilion Driver Regulations; driving positions require a copy of the current driving record.
• Obtain IAHSS Basic Training Certification within one year of hire.
• Obtain IAHSS Advanced Training Certification within two years of hire.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Computer keyboarding skills.

• Previous experience as a security officer.

Responsibilities

• Monitor fixed posts and perform required services at those posts.
• Prepare and review security-related reports as required.
• Communicate effectively with people from all segments of society and promote cooperation among security officers and other hospital employees.
• Transport, guard, and/or provide security for patients, inmates, staff, and visitors as needed.
• Interact with and assist outside agencies and law enforcement personnel conducting business at the hospital.
• Ensure assignments are fulfilled, duty posts are staffed, and facilities are properly secured.
• Monitor and provide crowd and traffic control on hospital property when needed.
• Operate and use standard-issued equipment.
• Respond to emergencies when needed.
• Perform special assignments and other duties as assigned or directed by management.
• Provide services that may include parking vehicles, checking doors, providing escorts, assisting police officers and motorists, and assisting hospital staff.
