About The Position

The Security Officer - Resource Center is an unarmed, part-time role serving a dynamic public-facing location. The officer monitors and patrols the site to help maintain a welcoming and orderly environment for visitors and staff, supports access control, remains visible to deter incidents, and provides customer service and clear communication. The role requires a New York State Security Guard License and a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must be at least 18 years old for unarmed roles and are subject to a background investigation and, where permitted by law, a drug screen.

The position is scheduled Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The pay rate is $19.30 per hour. Customer service experience and access control or badge experience are preferred.

Requirements

• Possess a New York State Security Guard License.
• Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles.
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Submit to a background investigation in accordance with applicable laws.
• Submit to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service to patrons, visitors, and staff by carrying out site-specific security procedures and policies and, when appropriate, emergency response activities.
• Respond calmly and professionally to incidents, disturbances, and critical situations, following established reporting and notification protocols.
• Conduct regular and random patrols of library facilities, entrances, reading areas, public spaces, and the surrounding perimeter to deter unauthorized activity and identify security concerns.
• Monitor access points and visitor activity, reporting suspicious behavior, hazardous conditions, and policy violations to appropriate personnel.
• Help maintain an orderly, welcoming environment by providing directions, answering general questions, and supporting facility rules and procedures.
