About The Position

The Security and Safety Specialist contributes to REI’s success by mitigating and reducing shrink, including theft and fraud by customers and employees, and increasing the physical security of people and products in a specified retail store. The role helps conduct Asset Protection training for store management and staff and provides a visible presence to deter threats to assets and employees. In consultation with the Market Manager of Asset Protection, the Specialist makes recommendations or takes action to address shrink and physical security. The role models and acts in accordance with REI’s guiding values and mission. The Specialist monitors and addresses physical security and safety at retail stores and events, conducts patrols, observes and reports suspicious activity, and supports incident response. The position may provide Asset Protection services to other market stores, represent REI in court when requested, and help create or execute security strategies for special REI events. A flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and regular attendance are necessary. REI describes its commitment to inclusion, anti-racism, and creating a multicultural organization. Responsibilities

Assist with Asset Protection training for store management and staff.
Provide a visible presence and deterrent to protect assets and employees.
In consultation with the Market Manager of Asset Protection, make recommendations or take action to address shrink and physical security.
Monitor, assess, and take action to address the physical security and safety of retail stores and events.
Conduct regular patrols in and around stores and events, checking for unsafe conditions, hazards, security violations, and unauthorized persons.
Observe incidents or suspicious activity, verbally deescalate when appropriate, and report to the Asset Protection team and store management.
Prepare narratives, logs, and case reports as required.
Represent REI in court when requested.
Support other market stores with Asset Protection services as needed.
Adhere to REI policies and procedures and help ensure they are implemented throughout the store.
Assist management during emergencies.
Protect evidence or an incident scene during emergencies and provide direction or information to others.
Participate in periodic training and subject matter updates for the store team.
Create and/or execute the security strategy for special REI events as needed.
