Requirements

  • Equivalent to six months of work experience in a customer service, recreational, or related field.
  • All applicants conditionally offered seasonal employment with the Department of Parks and Recreation will be required to pass a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Process payments for goods or services, including receiving cash, charge cards, or checks in person or by mail, and accurately entering fees into a computerized cash register system.
  • Post payments to accounts, balance cash drawers, prepare money for deposits, keep records, issue receipts, and compile daily balance reports.
  • Supervise program participants to ensure an enjoyable and safe experience, maintaining accurate attendance records, and addressing discipline problems as needed.
  • Interpret policies, procedures, rules, and regulations to the public, volunteers, parents, and program participants, both in person and over the telephone.
  • Prepare and sell concessions, including taking orders, preparing food items and beverages, and receiving payments.
  • Operate and maintain equipment for recreational activities, such as skate rental areas, including sharpening skates and maintaining daily inventory.
  • Clean and maintain facilities, including food preparation areas, eating areas, counters, floors, ice rink areas, warming rooms, restrooms, skate rental areas, and offices, to ensure a sanitary and pleasant environment.
  • Monitor and restock supplies to ensure the availability of inventory for programs, concessions, or facility operations.
  • Provide assistance and information to the general public, including resolving discrepancies or addressing inquiries.
  • Administer general first aid for minor injuries to participants and follow up appropriately for more serious incidents.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions to stay updated on information and maintain skills.
  • Receive and forward telephone inquiries or take appropriate messages.
  • Assist instructors or staff with program activities (e.g., helping students on and off the ice, operating scoreboards).
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
