About The Position

Lenovo is seeking a hands-on Windows SDK Development Engineer to design, build, integrate, and maintain Qira SDK capabilities for supported Windows devices and applications. The role owns production-quality code, Windows platform integration, developer-facing APIs, automated validation, and technical troubleshooting throughout the SDK release lifecycle. The engineer will collaborate with Qira core SDK, Windows application, device platform, AI services, and security teams across Lenovo, Motorola, and external partners. The work centers on software engineering and technical delivery, translating product requirements and integration feedback into secure, reliable, and maintainable Windows SDK features. The position is based in Chicago, Illinois, with a hybrid schedule of three days onsite and two days remote.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or 4+ years of equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial hands-on Windows development and delivery of SDKs, reusable libraries, platform components, or developer-facing APIs.
  • Experience in modern C++ and/or C#/.NET, including work across native and managed boundaries, memory ownership, marshaling, concurrency, and asynchronous execution.
  • Experience designing maintainable APIs and managing SDK compatibility, dependencies, testing, and releases.
  • Hands-on experience debugging Windows applications using Visual Studio, crash dumps, and/or WinDbg.
  • Experience with Windows build tooling, Git, automated testing, CI/CD, and PowerShell and/or Python.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Win32, Windows App SDK/WinUI, WPF, COM/WinRT, or P/Invoke.
  • Experience with Rust, Kotlin/Kotlin Multiplatform, or other SDK implementation languages and native bindings.
  • Experience building native Windows ARM64 applications or libraries.
  • Experience with ETW, Windows Performance Recorder/Analyzer, Windows Error Reporting, symbols, and production diagnostics.
  • Experience with NuGet, MSIX, Authenticode signing, software supply-chain security, or vulnerability remediation.
  • Strong understanding of Windows processes, threads, synchronization, services, IPC, security contexts, DLLs, and application lifecycle.
  • Experience integrating AI services, streaming APIs, or local inference runtimes.
  • Familiarity with agentic AI, MCP, A2A, and permission/consent models.
  • Linux, Android, or embedded experience supporting shared SDK architecture and cross-device interoperability.
  • Knowledge of TLS, authentication, secure credential handling, and resilient network communication.
  • Strong technical ownership, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, review, and maintain Windows-specific SDK components, platform adapters, and supported language bindings, while contributing reusable functionality to shared SDK components.
  • Build documented APIs with clear lifecycle, threading, memory ownership, error handling, cancellation, and asynchronous event contracts.
  • Maintain source and binary compatibility where required, and manage breaking changes through versioning and deprecation practices.
  • Implement native and managed interoperability using technologies appropriate to the SDK architecture, including C-compatible interfaces, P/Invoke, COM, and WinRT.
  • Integrate Qira capabilities into supported Windows desktop applications, background processes, and services using appropriate process boundaries and IPC mechanisms.
  • Implement and validate Windows lifecycle behavior, including initialization, shutdown, sign-in/sign-out, lock/unlock, sleep/resume, network changes, and service recovery.
  • Maintain compatibility across supported Windows versions, x64 and ARM64, application frameworks, runtime dependencies, and deployment models.
  • Develop responsive, asynchronous integrations with Qira services, including streaming responses, retries, timeouts, cancellation, and offline or degraded behavior.
  • Validate enterprise proxy, certificate, security, and connectivity requirements.
  • Implement authentication, token lifecycle management, TLS certificate validation, and secure local storage using appropriate Windows capabilities.
  • Apply least privilege, secure IPC, safe DLL loading, dependency management, and secure local file and configuration handling.
  • Support consent and permission boundaries for device data and AI capabilities while protecting sensitive information in diagnostics and logs.
  • Partner with security and Qira engineering teams on threat modeling, vulnerabilities, and security remediation.
  • Diagnose crashes, hangs, deadlocks, race conditions, memory or handle leaks, DLL loading failures, and interoperability defects using Visual Studio, WinDbg, symbols, crash dumps, and Windows diagnostics.
  • Measure and optimize startup time, responsiveness, CPU, memory, and power impact, using structured diagnostics and ETW where appropriate.
  • Own defect reproduction, root-cause analysis, code fixes, regression testing, and release verification.
  • Maintain reproducible Windows builds using Visual Studio/MSVC, MSBuild, CMake, or equivalent SDK tooling, with CI/CD automation using PowerShell or Python.
  • Develop unit, integration, API-contract, interoperability, and regression tests across supported architectures, Windows versions, permissions, lifecycle transitions, and connectivity scenarios.
  • Produce versioned SDK packages, debug symbols, dependency inventories, release notes, and sample applications using NuGet or native distribution formats as appropriate.
  • Support application packaging such as MSIX, code signing, artifact verification, upgrade testing, dependency compatibility, and rollback.
  • Create reference integrations, API documentation, troubleshooting guides, samples, and diagnostic tooling for Windows developers.
  • Work with internal and external engineering teams to reproduce integration issues and improve SDK usability.
  • Translate integration feedback into actionable engineering requirements and participate in design and code reviews.
