About The Position

Lenovo is seeking a hands-on SDK Integration Engineer to enable and support the Qira SDK across Linux, real-time operating systems (RTOS), and other embedded operating systems on Lenovo, Motorola, and partner devices. The role covers integrating, adapting, validating, and troubleshooting the SDK within device software stacks, from initial bring-up through production release and ongoing support. The engineer will work with device application, firmware, BSP, platform, and Qira SDK teams to resolve integration issues and deliver secure, reliable AI-connected device experiences. The position also assesses which Qira capabilities are suitable for constrained devices and collaborates on adapters, companion services, or gateway-based approaches when direct SDK execution is not appropriate. This is a hybrid position based in Chicago, Illinois, with three days onsite and two days remote.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or at least 4 years of equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience, including hands-on Linux or embedded systems development and integration of SDKs, libraries, middleware, or device-facing services.
  • Experience in Rust, C, and/or C++, including memory management, concurrency, native interfaces, and systems debugging; Python and/or shell scripting experience.
  • Practical Linux experience with processes, threads, IPC, libraries, service lifecycle, permissions, and networking.
  • Hands-on RTOS development or integration experience, including scheduling, synchronization, resource constraints, and real-time behavior.
  • Experience with cross-compilation, compiler/linker diagnostics, target debugging, architecture/ABI compatibility, and build systems such as CMake or Make.
  • Experience with Git, automated testing, CI/CD, and cross-functional collaboration across application, firmware, and platform teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Yocto/OpenEmbedded, Buildroot, FreeRTOS, Zephyr, QNX, or similar embedded platforms.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, TLS, HTTP APIs, authentication, and device connectivity and recovery patterns.
  • Experience with ARM/ARM64, board bring-up, BSP integration, serial consoles, and JTAG/SWD debugging.
  • Experience with Rust, Kotlin/Kotlin Multiplatform, or native interoperability.
  • Experience with connected-device SDKs, AI service clients, streaming responses, or device-to-cloud integrations.
  • Familiarity with agentic AI concepts, MCP, A2A, and consent/permission models.
  • Experience with secure boot, signed updates, hardware-backed credential storage, SBOMs, vulnerability remediation, hardware-in-the-loop automation, performance profiling, or power optimization.
  • Additional Android or Windows integration experience supporting companion applications or cross-device interoperability.
  • Strong communication, troubleshooting, and issue ownership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate supported Qira SDK components into Linux and RTOS device applications and services, including technical onboarding, sample integrations, build configuration, and production readiness.
  • Assess CPU architecture, operating system, runtime, ABI, toolchain, networking, and dependency compatibility; document supported configurations and platform limitations.
  • Partner with SDK teams on platform abstraction layers, native bindings, and adapters for threading, networking, storage, timing, synchronization, and lifecycle management.
  • Build and package SDK components using cross-compilation toolchains and platform-appropriate build systems, working with firmware and BSP teams to resolve integration blockers.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for Qira SDK issues on supported devices; reproduce failures on target hardware, isolate root causes, and coordinate fixes.
  • Debug crashes, memory issues, deadlocks, race conditions, startup failures, networking errors, and interoperability problems using device logs, crash dumps, traces, debuggers, and hardware debug interfaces.
  • Maintain reproducible test cases and diagnostic evidence, prioritize defects by impact, and validate fixes across affected device and SDK versions.
  • Measure and optimize RAM, flash, CPU usage, startup time, latency, and power consumption under constrained and sustained operating conditions.
  • Design asynchronous execution, bounded queues, timeout and cancellation behavior, and task priorities that prevent SDK activity from disrupting real-time device functions.
  • Handle intermittent connectivity, reconnects, retries, suspend/resume, device resets, and degraded operation.
  • Develop automated integration, regression, compatibility, and endurance testing on representative hardware, including hardware-in-the-loop testing where appropriate.
  • Validate SDK upgrades, API/ABI compatibility, packaging, dependencies, and rollback, and maintain versioned build and support documentation.
  • Implement secure device authentication, TLS validation, credential provisioning, secure storage, and least-privilege access using supported platform capabilities.
  • Partner with security and Qira engineering on data protection, permissions, dependency vulnerabilities, and secure update requirements.
  • Create integration guides, sample applications, troubleshooting runbooks, and diagnostic tools for Linux and RTOS developers.
  • Collaborate across Lenovo, Motorola, external partners, and Qira engineering to identify portability gaps and drive prioritized SDK improvements.
  • Support proofs of concept and production adoption through working code, tested examples, and clear acceptance criteria.

Benefits

  • Employees may be considered for bonuses and/or commissions.
  • Lenovo benefits are available; specific benefits are not detailed in the posting.
