SDK Platform Engineer

Faraday Future•El Segundo, CA
•$80,000 - $120,000

About The Position

This is a hardware-software integration role on an embodied-AI robotics platform. The SDK Platform Engineer develops and validates the robot SDK across humanoid and quadruped robots from multiple vendors; owns edge-side integration and hardware bring-up, including compute boards, sensors and buses, and on-device inference; and builds the developer platform and tools—including the Skill Store, Console, and content creation tools—from web frontend and backend services through verification on real robots. As the roadmap advances, the role also involves building simulation environments and training, evaluating, and deploying motion policies on real robots. Interfaces developed in this role run on real hardware and are used by third-party developers, so successful return codes alone are not considered sufficient verification.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Automation, Robotics, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience building software others depend on, such as SDKs, libraries, or APIs, or experience with embedded or hardware-software systems. No minimum years are required; new graduates with strong hands-on embedded or robotics project work are welcome to apply.
  • Knowledge, expertise, and passion for robotics software, hardware-software integration, and developer platforms.
  • Top-notch Python or C/C++ skills at the level of production code with tests.
  • Strong familiarity with Linux development and deployment, including systemd, networking, and log forensics, and at least one robotics middleware or communication stack such as ROS 2, DDS, MQTT, zenoh, or gRPC.
  • Hands-on experience with real devices, including bringing up hardware, integrating vendor protocols, and diagnosing failures on site.
  • A habit of verifying before concluding and a conservative approach to anything that moves real hardware.
  • Excellent communication skills and team-working tendencies.
  • Ability to multitask and self-start.
  • Determination; a sense of humor is also desired.
  • Fascination with robotics and embodied AI and commitment to global change.
  • Creative curiosity, collaborative ethic, hardworking enthusiasm, and driving personal vision.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise with unified abstraction layers over multi-vendor hardware and conformance or certification test suites that outside parties must pass.
  • Embedded debugging experience with I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, or USB and tools such as a logic analyzer or oscilloscope; edge-AI deployment experience with quantization, ONNX, TensorRT, or NPU; and service operations experience with containers, CI/CD, reverse proxy, or monitoring.
  • Experience with robot simulation such as MuJoCo, Isaac, or Gazebo; reinforcement or imitation learning carried through to a physical robot; motion retargeting; or humanoid whole-body control.
  • Experience with developer platforms, SDK releases, documentation sites, or app and plugin marketplaces.
  • Full-stack web development experience, including frontend development with React, TypeScript, or similar, and backend services and APIs using Python/FastAPI, Node.js, or similar, backed by a relational database such as PostgreSQL.
  • Experience shipping production web products, including accounts and sign-in with OAuth/OIDC, file and package upload/download, usage quotas, cloud deployment such as AWS and object storage, and frontend testing.
  • Rust or C++ experience; some runtime components are written in Rust/C++.
  • Comfort working from schematics and datasheets; power, battery management, or thermal experience is a plus.
  • Open-source contributions, technical writing, or developer-community experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate the robot SDK across humanoid and quadruped robots from multiple vendors.
  • Own edge-side integration and hardware bring-up, including compute boards, sensors and buses, and on-device inference.
  • Build the developer platform and developer tools, including the Skill Store, Console, and content creation tools, across frontend, backend, and verification on real robots.
  • Build simulation environments as the roadmap advances.
  • Train, evaluate, and deploy motion policies on real robots as the roadmap advances.
  • Verify interfaces on real hardware and account for their use by third-party developers.
