Scratch Baker
About The Position
The Scratch Baker performs bakery production tasks on one or more bakery items according to standard formulas and procedures. The role includes mixing, scaling, proofing, baking, frying, and finishing products, as well as supporting ingredient and supply orders, maintaining inventory, and merchandising bakery displays. The associate prices, dates, wraps, or bags bakery products according to Bakery Merchant direction and store policy, cleans and sanitizes bakery areas and equipment, follows safety and accident-prevention policies, and helps keep equipment in good working order. The position requires being at least 18 years old.
Requirements
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Knowledge of basic bakery terms and processes, including fermentation, bench time, proofing, and the effects of temperature variations.
- Ability to grasp, push, pull, carry, stoop, twist, crouch, and reach; perform repetitive-motion tasks requiring eye, hand, and foot coordination; and hear and respond to customer inquiries.
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend throughout the workday and maneuver objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Mix, scale, proof, bake, fry, and finish bakery items according to standard formulas and procedures.
- Apply basic bakery knowledge, including fermentation, bench time, proofing, and the effects of temperature variations.
- Assist with ordering bakery ingredients and supplies and maintain inventory levels according to department and store policy.
- Fill, rotate, arrange, and merchandise displays and display cases.
- Price, date, wrap, or bag bakery products according to Bakery Merchant direction.
- Pursue self-development to prepare to assume additional duties and responsibilities.
- Comply with company safety and accident-prevention policies and report accidents to the Bakery Merchant.
- Clean and sanitize bakery areas and equipment as directed by the Bakery Merchant.
- Maintain department equipment in good working order and recommend repairs when necessary.
