Scientist II/Senior Scientist I, DMPK

Zealand Pharma•Cambridge, MA

About The Position

Zealand Pharma is expanding its global R&D capabilities and establishing research units in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to advance drug modalities in metabolic disease. The role is part of the Global DMPK department within Pharmacokinetics, Immunogenicity and Bioanalytical Sciences. The scientist will advance LC-MS capabilities and DMPK science for complex molecular formats, helping shape a new platform and research center. The position works closely with cross-functional R&D stakeholders to develop study strategies, interpret data, and communicate DMPK risks and recommendations. The successful candidate will contribute technical expertise across mass spectrometry, pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, and bioanalysis. Responsibilities span the LC-MS bioanalysis workflow, from PK study design and method development through sample analysis and reporting, as well as in vitro DMPK assays and continuous improvement of workflows. Applications are reviewed as they come in. A cover letter is not required, but applicants should include a few sentences in their CV explaining their motivation for applying.

Requirements

  • PhD in pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, chemistry, or a related scientific field, with 0–3 years of relevant industry or postdoctoral experience; or an M.S. with approximately 3–6 years of relevant industry experience; or a B.S./B.A. with approximately 5–8+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Solid hands-on background in LC-MS bioanalysis and assay development.
  • Strong technical expertise across the full LC-MS bioanalysis and PK workflow.
  • Scientific curiosity and sound judgment.
  • Clear communication of scientific data and concepts.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and across cross-functional project teams.
  • Motivation to help shape a new platform and research center from an early stage.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in PK study design, data interpretation, and translating DMPK insights into actionable project recommendations.
  • Experience with bioanalysis of complex molecules such as peptides, antibodies, and conjugates.
  • Familiarity with ADME assays and metabolite identification for larger molecules.
  • Experience with digital or automation-enabled bioanalysis and DMPK workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to development of DMPK discovery platforms and bioanalysis capabilities for complex drug modalities, including antibodies, antibody-peptide conjugates, and peptides.
  • Execute the LC-MS bioanalysis workflow, including input to PK study design, method development, sample analysis, and reporting of PK and exposure data.
  • Support PK and metabolite identification across discovery projects.
  • Design and conduct in vitro assays, such as metabolic stability experiments and other project-relevant DMPK assays.
  • Adopt efficient, digital, and automation-enabled approaches to continuously improve DMPK workflows.
  • Work with cross-functional R&D stakeholders to shape study strategies, interpret data, and communicate DMPK risks and recommendations.
