About The Position

This student employment position within the School of Health Sciences Student Employment offers two primary roles: Front Desk Student Worker and SHS Peer Advisor. As a Front Desk Student Worker, you will be the first point of contact for visitors to the SHS Advising Suite, assisting with inquiries and supporting faculty and staff with various office duties. As an SHS Peer Advisor, you will provide direct advising assistance to first-year students, helping them with course registration, understanding degree progress, and navigating university resources. This role also involves promoting advising and career development events and resources.

Requirements

  • Personable and friendly to work on a constant basis with faculty, staff, students and visitors.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Must be a School of Health Sciences student sophomore level or above.
  • First year students are not eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors to the SHS Advising Suite and assist with inquiries.
  • Support faculty and staff as needed with various office duties including typing, filing, copying, errands on campus, assistance with mailings, inventory, stocking of supplies, and creation of flyers and/or other marketing materials.
  • Sort and/or deliver daily mail for SHS / SON & Advising Office.
  • May be asked to assist other departments within the School of Health Sciences.
  • Be available for walk-in advising assistance for first year students.
  • Assist first year students with course registration, including how to use Self Service and Stellic to register for classes, and how to find and understand degree progress.
  • Provide basic Handshake instruction to students including how to set up a profile, where to find jobs and internships, and how to make an appointment with a career counselor (training will be provided).
  • Point and/or refer students to appropriate online and in-person advising and career development resources including the course catalog, advising website, Happy Friday emails, and/or relevant faculty or staff.
  • Be knowledgeable about upcoming SHS Advising and Career related events, deadlines, and activities.
  • Verify students sign in prior to their appointment, and bump up Advising questions/concerns if needed.
