About The Position
The Community Charter School of Paterson (CCSP) is seeking a School Nurse to serve its middle school. The nurse works with the consulting school physician, school staff, parents, and community health professionals to support a healthy school environment and reduce illness-related absences. The position provides student and staff health services, emergency care, health education support, and assistance with school safety and student support programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- School Nurse Certification.
- Registered Nurse Certification.
Responsibilities
- Conduct health services and screening programs required by law or Board policies.
- Schedule and supervise health surveys of students and staff.
- Make referrals and conduct follow-up activities as necessary.
- Provide emergency care for sudden illness and administer first aid for injuries to students or staff according to established policies and procedures.
- Ensure required medical supplies and equipment are available and maintained.
- Maintain current student health records and separate immunization records for auditing purposes while ensuring confidentiality.
- Help prevent and control communicable diseases through education, inspections, exclusion, and readmission procedures consistent with health regulations and school policies.
- Notify the CEO or designee when a student needs immediate examination due to appearing under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
- Advise students, parents, and staff on student health and safety matters.
- Participate in developing and implementing the school emergency and crisis management plan.
- Assist the Director of Student Support Services, CEO, and child study team in identifying and placing students with disabilities who need special education services.
- Participate in developing a comprehensive health education curriculum and serve as a health and safety resource for teachers.
- Assist teachers with instruction in certain health units upon request.
- Promote a healthy and safe school environment by helping administration and staff maintain safe and sanitary conditions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
