About The Position

The School Custodian is responsible for providing care, maintenance, sanitation, cleanliness, and safety for the physical plant and grounds of the school. This role involves a variety of tasks to ensure a well-maintained and safe environment for students and staff.

Requirements

Ability to clean and sanitize restrooms and dressing rooms.
Ability to clean windows, window ledges, furniture, and equipment.
Ability to sweep, vacuum, and mop floors.
Ability to empty and clean trash cans.
Ability to assist in maintaining inventory of supplies and tools.
Ability to assist in supervising physical security.
Ability to provide emergency clean-up.
Ability to inspect and replace light bulbs.
Ability to perform minor maintenance repairs.
Ability to patrol grounds and pick up litter.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects.
Ability to assist in setting up facilities.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and laws relating to job assignment.
Ability to assist with grounds maintenance.
Effective communication skills with staff, students, and administrators.
Adherence to attendance, punctuality, and proper dress rules.

Responsibilities

Clean and sanitize restrooms and dressing rooms, including all fixtures, faucets, drain pipes, mirrors, commodes, sinks, urinals, window sills, ledges, air vents, floors, and walls daily.
Clean windows, window ledges, furniture, and equipment in all assigned areas.
Sweep or vacuum and mop hard surfaces of assigned rooms and corridors.
Vacuum and spot-clean assigned carpeted rooms and hallways.
Empty and clean trash cans in all assigned areas.
Assist in maintaining an inventory of custodial supplies, tools, and materials for use in the facility.
Assist in the supervision of the physical security of the facility as required.
Provide emergency clean-up for spills and mishaps throughout the facility.
Inspect building lighting fixtures daily and replace bulbs as needed.
Perform minor maintenance repairs as assigned.
Patrol facility and grounds to pick up and prevent the accumulation of litter.
Assist in lifting and moving heavy objects and furniture as required.
Assist in setting up facilities for programs, meetings, etc. as required.
Comply with all local, state, and federal regulations and laws relating to job assignment.
Assist with grounds maintenance as required.
Communicate effectively with staff members, students, administrators, and other contact persons using tact and good judgment.
Follow attendance, punctuality, and proper dress rules.
Ensure adherence to good safety standards.
Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
Model and maintain high ethical standards.
Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
Maintain expertise in assigned areas to fulfill project goals and objectives.
Participate successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignments.
